Kindergarten Vaccines

The vaccines required for Kindergarten:

  • Dtap- 5 doses
  • Polio- 4 doses
  • MMR- 2 doses
  • Varicella- 2 doses

Usually, the last dose of each vaccine is administered on/after your child’s 5th birthday.

If you have no immunization records, or incomplete immunization records please communicate with your school nurse. Students with incomplete immunization records will not be permitted to attend school.

Doctor’s Contact Information

On the online application, please write in your child’s doctor’s name and office contact information.

A primary care provider (PCP) must be indicated.

If your child has other specialists, please notify your school.

If your child has health records that the school nurse may need access to, please contact your school to fill out a Release of Information form.

Medications at School- OTC

Every school has a full time nurse. The nurse has over-the-counter medications in the clinic that are available when students need them.

  • Tylenol (acetaminophen)
  • Advil (ibuprofen)
  • Claritin (loratadine)
  • TUMS (calcium carbonate)
  • Pepto-Bismol (bismuth)

Parents must indicate Yes/No on the online application for these medications to be administered.

Medications at School- Rx

If your child has a prescription medication that needs to be administered during school hours, we will need the following information:

  • Signed orders from the doctor with medication name, dose, and time.
  • Medication Administration Form signed by the parent and doctor.
  • The medication in the original container, not expired.

Examples of medication prescribed for students include asthma inhalers, EPI pens, ADHD medications, etc.

Please reach out to your school for more information.

Bringing Medications to School

Any medication brought to the school must be dropped off by an adult.

Please bring the medication to the front office and the nurse will collect the medication.

If another person, other than the parent, is dropping off the medication, please let the front office or nurse know ahead of time.

Do not send medication in your child’s backpack.

Do not hand the medication to the bus driver.

Health Plans

There are some conditions that will require a signed health plan from your doctor. These include:

  • Asthma
  • Seizures
  • Food Allergies
  • Severe Allergies
  • Diabetes

These conditions may require emergency medication to be administered, such as an albuterol inhaler, diazepam gel, or an epinephrine injection.

Food Allergies

If your child has a food allergy, please notify:

  • School Nurse
  • Teacher
  • Nutrition Department

Depending on the severity of the food allergy, your child’s classroom may restrict that allergen from the room. A confidential letter may be sent to the other parents in the class asking that food item not be sent to school.

In case of an emergency, you will be contacted first. If we are unable to reach you, we will reach out to the emergency contacts you list.

  • Please be sure that your phone number and email address are up to date.
  • Please be sure that all emergency contact information is up to date.

Please provide at least 1 emergency contact when completing your child’s registration.

If any contact information changes, please notify your school immediately.

MultiLingual Services

  • Students who speak languages other than English may qualify for English language development services in our schools
  • At the time of registration, families will be asked about the languages spoken by the child and within the household which will help to determine eligibility for additional screening

  • Our School Nutrition Program serves over 300,000 meals every year!

  • Breakfast, lunch, and healthy snack are available every day for all students.

  • Every student has an account - for things like purchasing an extra milk.

Transportation

  • Westbrook policy says that K-12 students can be dropped off without an adult but the transportation department will not drop a K student off without seeing that adult. The adult must be visible to the driver (not in the house or waiting in a car, etc).

  • Bus stop locations and pick-up/drop-off times will be available to parents through an online system in early August. Pick-up and drop-off is done by home address.

  • There are no car seats or seat belts on our school buses for our general education students. All students have assigned seats. Siblings can sit together and families should talk to the driver.

It is important to establish a habit of consistent school attendance so that students know that going to school on time, every day is important.

You can support school attendance by having a consistent evening and morning routine. This may include having a consistent bedtime, laying out the child’s clothes the night before, and waking up at the same time each day.

5 Important Documents to Have Ready

Proof of Residency (2) - This must include a mortgage statement or lease agreement and one other item such as a cable or electric bill with your name and address on it

Birth Certificate or Passport - We do not save these records. They are a one time verification and are destroyed in the system once seen and verified

All Immunization Records

Any legal documents pertaining to your kindergartener, such as custody agreements

You may take photos of these documents or scan them as PDF files to upload to Infinite Campus when you register online

Screening

Once you have completed the online registration, please call to schedule your child’s screening appointment. Appointments will be held on Thursday, March 28th and Friday, March 29th.

Students will go home from screening with a bag full of materials to begin engaging with fun, learning activities.
