Master & Layout
Making slides properly
while still having them look nice
The full-screen image method
Every slide can have a cat on it with the full-screen image method (so long as you’re talking about cats)
Title & body slides
This is a title and content slide layout (or, as Google Slides calls it, a “title and body” slide).
It’s a pretty straightforward sort of thing. But it fulfills a function.
We used the same layout on the previous slide (but moved the placeholder boxes about).
This slide isn’t using a layout
Not that you’d necessarily notice, because it looks as if it is using a title/content layout.
But it isn’t. And this has implications. For instance, this slide doesn’t really have a title. That blue thing up there? Not a title. Not formally, in terms of document structure. It’s a bit like styles in Word. But at least you can retrospectively apply styles in Word.
Layouts ftw
...so layouts are useful for navigation and accessibility.
But they’re also useful should you want to make any global changes to your presentation.
Like, suppose I go off blue and decide I want all my titles to be red instead...
The Master Slide
Layouts can be changed globally from the Master: a sort of template slide that controls the appearance of the placeholders in a layout.
If I want the titles to be red, I can just go to the Master and change the font colour there. Any titles using the placeholder will change accordingly.
Unless I’ve already changed the colour manually, like I did here. This slide’s title will be red forever more. Unless I manually change it to something else.
