The Problem

3

The current pandemic has highlighted the weaknesses of our global supply chain...

...adding to its unsustainable nature: food production and consumption account for ~25% of global GHG emissions.

Food waste is also a big problem along the supply chain

4 of 22

The Opportunity

4

Lockdown has left customers more willing to buy at local businesses: feeling of community empowerment, supporting local markets

In parallel, Europeans want to be more aware of the environmental impact of their purchases:

in 7 countries surveyed, 2/3 of consumers support carbon labelling!

5 of 22

Context & Stakeholder Mapping

We want to help urban citizens in their search for local products, while also increasing their awareness on the environmental impact of their groceries

5

Habitat:

Urban Environment

Infrastructure & Processes:

Online information for consumer awareness

People it may involve:

The consumers and indirectly the whole food supply chain

The Solution

7 of 22

Our service: “LOCAL”

LOCAL is a tool that empowers local low-carbon shopping in cities

7

Based on 3 parameters

How local is your product? – How water intensive is your product? – How carbon intensive is your product?

…and a rating scale for each one

Our service: “LOCAL”

1) Helps you to choose a local store to make your grocery shopping

8

2) Inside a store, helps you compare products to decide

The approach -

building partnerships for maximum reach

The LOCAL tool can easily build on an existing apps (ex.: YUKA) that reaches the same target group: shopping customers that care

For that reason, we believe a partnership would allow us to:

  • Start off with an already existing user database
  • Cut on the costs associated with building an app from scratch
  • Reduce implementation time

9

Impact Metrics & Theory of Change

1. Number of app downloads → people having more access to information can impact on their purchasing choices and consumption patterns

10

2. Extra revenue for local businesses and producers → new customers will be attracted by local products

3. Reduced Carbon footprint (measures with customer surveys, eventually personal profiles on the app with info like “avoided carbon emissions”, “avoided water consumption”)

What needs to be done now?

How do you scale?

Having the partnership with an existing app like Yuka will provide us a solid network and user database.

Social media can be a useful tool to attract interest of more customers and also of local business owners, who want to contribute with accurate information for the app.
