  • We are finding that adults who role over as you are enrolled for 3 years each year you have to go in and select horse as a project to be included.
  • Check your spam and if it goes there accept it.

Heading/Section Horse Training Program Section – Eligibility

Current Wording:

The 4-H member must be enrolled in the Horse Training Project

Requested Wording:

The 4-H member must be enrolled in the Horse Training Project

Youth who have won a horse through the “Win a Horse” program in 4-H are required to show the acquired horse in the horse training program during the year following being awarded the horse. The “Win a Horse” youth, and horse pair does NOT count as a training horse trip to the MN 4-H State Horse Show. The youth is required to participate in the horse training program at the county level. Regardless of placing, the youth is required to bring the colt to the MN 4-H State Horse Show, even if they receive a red or white ribbon to the MN 4-H State Horse Show. The Youth may only compete at the MN 4-H State Horse Show if they were awarded a blue ribbon at their county fair.

Limited-Short Program Drill Team

Class Routine

Riders may ride English or Western. However, all riders must ride the same style.

Equipment follows 4-H English and Gaming rules as listed in the Minnesota 4-H horse Program Rule Book.

A minimum of 2 riders and a maximum of 4 riders.

1 song maximum.

Drill length should be a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 4 minutes.

Riders enter the arena and line up where their drill will begin.

The Drill Team lead must acknowledge the judges by a head tip and LOUD whistle before the performance starts. Music timer will begin when judge(s) hear the music. Riders must not begin their routine until their music has started and can be heard. The routine is complete by saluting the judge and blowing one LOUD whistle.

Drills may contain any number of maneuvers; however, a limited drill must include all three maneuvers: Oblique Merge, Oblique Suicide, Bubble

HORSE EXPO 4-H TACK SWAP

  • The 4-H tack swap at the Minnesota Horse Expo is the main fundraising opportunity for the 4-H Horse Project but it relies on volunteers. The MN Horse Association manages the programs and donates profits to the 4-H program.

DISCOVERY HORSE

Last year we offered a discovery horse 5 week virtual zoom with take home lessons.

Filled in 5 minutes with 30 youth.

Discovery Horse 101 will be offered again. Already have 20 registered and not been advertised yet. No limit on kids

Dicovery Horse 201 is being designed and will be offered this year as well.

Offered last year. Great opportunity for counties to support their horseless horse kids and get them active in horse.

WINTER ROUND UP

Coming up January 19-21, 2024

Winter Round Up is an exciting three-day, two-night conference of adult and youth leadership and 4-H horse project learning. It's for youth in sixth grade or older who are interested in horses. Parents and adult 4-H volunteers are also welcome.
