26-27
school year
Arrival: The school day begins at 7:45 each morning. The doors to the school open at 7:20. By 7:45 students should be in their classroom ready to learn, so please ensure they arrive before 7:40 so they have time to walk down and unpack.
For the first day of school you may walk your child to the classroom door. After that we ask that you say your goodbyes in the car!
Our Cafeteria and Pod doors close at 7:43 and students will need to enter through the front office after that and receive a TARDY slip.
Birthdays
Birthdays are a very special time for young children. We look forward to celebrating with your child on their special day. You may send a brown bag with a treat for your child that they can open during snack time. It could have a fun snack for just your child (ex. cookie, brownie, a piece of candy), pencils, stickers, or any small little “treasure” item. The district does not allow for food items to be shared for the class. We will also celebrate them throughout the day to make them feel extra loved and celebrated. Weekend birthdays will either be celebrated the Friday before or Monday after. Summer birthdays will be celebrated at the end of the year. :)
If you wish to send party invitations you must include 1 for each student in the class.
Conference Time & Curriculum Night:
We will hold parent conferences starting in October. We also host
a Virtual Curriculum Night in September where we will show you what your child will be learning throughout the year and what end of the year expectations look like.
Please feel free to email us before our parent conference date should any questions arise! We are always ready to help answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.
Dismissal: Your child will be dismissed at 3:10p.m. each day. If for any reason you have a change in your child’s normal dismissal procedure you must notify the office or child’s teacher by 1pm. For your child’s safety, we are unable to accept any verbal messages from your child. We take transportation issues very seriously and would appreciate your help in this matter. If you park instead of going through the carpool line in the parking lot, you must walk up to our Walkers dismissal location at the Cafeteria. We will not allow children to leave without an adult. Please do not take your child without letting a teacher on duty know. A map will be sent out to explain where to pick up your child if you are carpooling.
Dismissal Types:
Carpool (Picked up in a car in the carpool lane by the gym/playground)
Walker (with an adult or older sibling, Cafeteria Door)
Daycare (rides a bus to a daycare)
YMCA (after school program,a YMCA representative will give you details about their pick-up procedures)
We NEED to know BEFORE the 1st day of school what your child’s daily dismissal will be. Please help us make dismissal as smooth and safe as possible.
Everyday: Please make sure your child is present everyday unless he/she is ill and/or running a fever or sick. If your child is absent, submit an absence form on our Scott website using the “Report an absence” tab. In addition please email your child’s teacher.
Students will need to bring their Daily Folder, Healthy Snack, and Water Bottle EVERYDAY.
Folders & Field Trips: Your child will bring home a folder everyday. This folder will contain any class notes and information you will need. When sending notes and other communication to school, please make sure it is inside the folder. We do not check backpacks. It is the child’s responsibility to take out any notes, lunch money, etc. first thing in the morning for us. On Thursday we will send home some of your child’s work and any important papers.
From time to time the daily folder will include school wide information from PTA. Be sure to check the folder for important PTA information and return it to school the next day. If there is something that needs to be returned to school, please put it in the daily folder. This will help us make sure all communication reaches the teacher and does not get lost.We are allowed two Field Trips during the school year. We will send home information regarding the destination, price, volunteer opportunities, etc. at a later time. Volunteers must have a completed background check form on file in the office to attend. We do ask that we make this day special and safe for the kindergartners, therefore we request other arrangements be made for younger siblings.
Good-byes & Guided Reading:
After the first day of school, please say your good-byes at the front door. This will help your child develop independence and self-confidence. It will also help us begin our school day in a calm, organized manner. It can be hard saying good-bye at the classroom door. Your child will participate in Guided Reading instruction each day before the end of the first nine week period. The first several weeks of school will be used to assess the children in order to find their instructional needs and levels. Guided Reading instruction consists of working with letters and words as well as developing reading strategies for reading books independently. After working with the teacher, your child will have a Guided Reading book to practice each night. Please see the next section, Homework, for additional information.
Homework: As your child begins reading instruction, they will begin bringing guided reading books home for them to practice reading. It is very important that they practice reading these books each evening and they are sent back to school the next day. Many books will be sent home more than one time to help your child develop their fluency and comprehension skills in addition to their decoding skills. Starting in September student will get a sheet with some optional homework activities in addition to reading. We will send them in their daily folders and post it on our website.
Illness: If students are ill it is best to keep them home so that they can rest and not spread germs. We want them ready to learn at school and if they are sick it will be hard to for them to fully participate.
Students must be fever free without the use of fever reducing medication for 24 hours. No vomiting or diarrhea in 24 hours.
Jackets & Sweaters: We will be going outside to play for recess unless it is raining. We go outside in the Winter as well if the temperature is above 32 degrees. Please make sure your child comes to school with the appropriate outerwear. We cannot leave a child inside because they do not have a jacket. All children will go outside unless we have a note written by a doctor.
Keeping Track:K is for keeping track of personal belongings. Please make sure your child’s name is on any important belonging so that it can be identified if found. Our lost and found is located next to the Library in the Main Hall. Please check it periodically for any lost items. All lost items will be placed there.
Lunch & Library: A lunch calendar will be available online.
There you can find information on what is being served, prices, and information on payment options. Please prepay in the cafeteria in the mornings or online for the week/month ahead. To pay your child’s account online please visit the Frisco ISD webpage https://www.schoolcafe.com/FRISCOISD
We suggest you put a block or limits on snack privileges for your child through the cafeteria. Teachers are not allowed to help your child with lunch selections inside the lunch line. If your child has a food allergy or cultural restriction, please notify the cafeteria in addition to your child’s teacher. The cafeteria will enter allergy information into their computer system (only with a doctor’s note) so your child will not be allowed to purchase any allergy foods. We do ask that there be no lunch visitors for the two weeks of school. This will help with your child’s transition to a full school day. After the first two weeks of school please feel free to come to lunch and join your child at the parent lunch tables. A background check is required before coming. We also ask that you fill out the online sign up sheet before coming. We will send the sign up when it opens up.
Library: Mrs. Urban, the librarian, will read stories based on our units of study. Kindergarten children can check out books to take home and read. Children can check out a new book only when they demonstrate the responsibility of returning the old book. Each class will visit the library once a week. Your child’s teacher will communicate which day their class goes to the library.

Money & Medicine: Please make sure any money sent with your child is placed in an envelope clearly marked with their name and the destination for the money. Please put the envelope in the daily folder to guarantee its arrival. We do not check backpacks for notes and money.Teachers are unable to dispense medicine or allow the children to do it on their own. This includes cough drops or any over the counter medication. Please see the nurse for any medicine concerns.

Numbers: Please make sure that your telephone numbers and email addresses are always current. This includes making sure the front office and your child’s teacher have your numbers.
Office: If your child must be absent from school, please submit your absence online by 8:30. Go to the Scott Website and hit the “Report an absence” button at the top right. The absence must be submitted online. Mrs. Monroe is the front desk secretary and can help you with any questions you have during the school day.
PTA: We have an incredible PTA here at Scott. We would love for you to be a part of it. Please visit our PTA website to find information on how to be a member and volunteer.
Questions: There is no such thing as a silly question- just ask!!!! It’s the only way we can keep the lines of communication open.
Responsibility: It is very important that children learn to be responsible. They will be learning how to take responsibility in a lot of different areas. Some of these areas will be: opening lunch items, packing and unpacking belongings, zippers, buttons, shoe tying, bathroom procedures, turning in work, and taking responsibility for their own actions/choices. Start practicing these things at home to give your child a head start!
Snacks, Specials, Seesaw: We will have a snack time each day after Specials at 1:30. Each child is responsible for bringing their own snack daily. Please put your child’s name on his/her snack each day. This helps us with knowing who the snack REALLY belongs to. Children are not allowed to share snacks with other students. Snacks should consist of things easy for the children to open and eat while working. Some good examples are individual bags of goldfish, crackers, cereal bars, small boxes of raisins, etc. Items such as candy bars, chips, or hard candies are not appropriate snacks. We do ask that you only send water for drinks. This will help us out a bunch in case of spills. Please make sure what you send is healthy. We will alert you if there are any class allergies that restrict particular items.
Each class will attend specials classes every day. “Specials” includes Music, Art PE, and Connections Lab. You will receive information as to your child’s class schedule for Specials once the school year begins. Please make sure your child has appropriate shoes to wear on their PE days.
Seesaw is a learning platform we utilize to connect students learning to home. It gives you a chance to see videos, photos, and examples of work the students do daily. It is also used as a way to communicate. Your teacher will provide instructions on how to connect to your child’s Seesaw account at meet the teacher.
You may see work that is not correct, but we still send it on to you so you can see the level of work they are completing at school. We still meet with students and go over their Seesaw work with them, but most activities are completed with a partner or independently.
Tardiness:Make sure your child is at school and
on time every day. The tardy bell rings at 7:45 a.m. It is very distracting to the learning environment for children to walk in after the school day has already begun. Tardiness is a serious issue and must be documented by law. Excessive tardiness is required to be reported by the school to legal officials. If you have any questions about the district’s tardy policy, please contact the school’s data clerk, 469-633-4000. Persistent early dismissal times are considered under the same umbrella due to missed instructional time. Scott will document late arrivals AND early dismissals. Both of which can add up to ½ day or full day absences.Toys: Please do not allow your child to bring toys to school UNLESS they have a note from the teacher for a Show and Tell Pass.
They disrupt the learning environment, get lost or cause unnecessary arguments.
Undies, etc.: Please keep a full change of clothes including undies, pants, socks, etc. in your child’s backpack at all times, even if your child hasn’t had an accident in years. It has been known to happen at the most unexpected times!
Volunteers: We love helpers!! There will be a chance to help as a volunteer once the school year starts! We will be contacting you to let you know how we can use your help as soon as possible. You can access the form at the very bottom of the Scott website.
Please remember that ALL volunteers MUST have a background check on file before being allowed to volunteer.
Weekly Emails: The school will send out a weekly email each Friday, letting you know all about what is happening at school and throughout the district.
Your classroom teacher will send our grade level newsletter through SEESAW Messages to let you know more about things specific to kindergarten. This way you are always kept up to date!Website: Please check our website for important information and resources. All of our newsletters will be linked there as well. It is a great way to quickly check for information you may need!
If you have any questions at all, please let us know! Thanks!
Together, we will make a big difference in your child’s life this year. We look forward to taking this
wonderful journey with you! It’s going to be a great year!!The Kindergarten Team:Mrs. McCoy, Mrs. Gibb, Mrs. Sperandio
Don’t forget to join PTA! Even just joining helps our school without any other time commitments!
