God’s people should strive to be “of one heart and one mind.”

5 of 34

God’s people should strive to be “of one heart and one mind.”

SCRIPTURE

16 […] the Lord came and dwelt with his people, and they dwelt in righteousness.

17 The fear of the Lord was upon all nations, so great was the glory of the Lord, which was upon his people. And the Lord blessed the land, and they were blessed upon the mountains, and upon the high places, and did flourish.

18 And the Lord called his people ZION, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.

- Moses 7:16-18

God’s people should strive to be “of one heart and one mind.”

Quentin L. Cook

Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Unity is…a broad, comprehensive term but most certainly exemplifies the first and second great commandments to love God and love our fellowmen. It denotes a Zion people whose hearts and minds are “knit together in unity.”… We are all aware that we can do better, and that is our challenge in this day…let us commit ourselves as members of the Lord’s Church to live righteously and be united as never before…This means loving each other and God and accepting everyone as brothers and sisters and truly being a Zion people.

With our all-inclusive doctrine, we can be an oasis of unity and celebrate diversity. Unity and diversity are not opposites…The clarion call to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to strive to be a Zion people who are of one heart and one mind and dwell in righteousness.

Kindness begins with me.”

We can build Zion in our day

We can build Zion in our day

SCRIPTURE

19 And Enoch continued his preaching in righteousness unto the people of God. And it came to pass in his days, that he built a city that was called the City of Holiness, even ZION.

20 And it came to pass that Enoch talked with the Lord; and he said unto the Lord: Surely Zion shall dwell in safety forever. But the Lord said unto Enoch: Zion have I blessed, but the residue of the people have I cursed.

21 And it came to pass that the Lord showed unto Enoch all the inhabitants of the earth; and he beheld, and lo, Zion, in process of time, was taken up into heaven. And the Lord said unto Enoch: Behold mine abode forever.

27 And Enoch beheld angels descending out of heaven, bearing testimony of the Father and Son; and the Holy Ghost fell on many, and they were caught up by the powers of heaven into Zion.

- Moses 7:19-21, 27

We can build Zion in our day

D. Todd Christofferson

Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

The Prophet Joseph Smith said: “The building up of Zion is a cause that has interested the people of God in every age;…we are the favored people that God has made choice of to bring about the Latter-day glory”…Zion is Zion because of the character, attributes, and faithfulness of her citizens…If we would establish Zion in our homes, branches, wards, and stakes, we must rise to this standard. It will be necessary (1) to become unified in one heart and one mind; (2) to become, individually and collectively, a holy people; and (3) to care for the poor and needy with such effectiveness that we eliminate poverty among us. We cannot wait until Zion comes for these things to happen—Zion will come only as they happen.

…Much of the work to be done in establishing Zion consists in our individual efforts to become “the pure in heart.”

God weeps for His children

SCRIPTURE

28 And it came to pass that the God of heaven looked upon the residue of the people, and he wept; and Enoch bore record of it, saying: How is it that the heavens weep, and shed forth their tears as the rain upon the mountains?

29 And Enoch said unto the Lord: How is it that thou canst weep, seeing thou art holy, and from all eternity to all eternity?

32 The Lord said unto Enoch: Behold these thy brethren; they are the workmanship of mine own hands, and I gave unto them their knowledge, in the day I created them; and in the Garden of Eden, gave I unto man his agency;

36 Wherefore, I can stretch forth mine hands and hold all the creations which I have made; and mine eye can pierce them also, and among all the workmanship of mine hands there has not been so great wickedness as among thy brethren.

40 Wherefore, for this shall the heavens weep, yea, and all the workmanship of mine hands.

- Moses 7:28-29, 32, 36, 40

God weeps for His children

Jeffrey R. Holland

Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

There, in the midst of a grand vision of humankind which heaven opened to his view, Enoch, observing both the blessings and challenges of mortality, turns his gaze toward the Father and is stunned to see Him weeping…That single, riveting scene does more to teach the true nature of God than any theological treatise could ever convey…What an indelible image of God’s engagement in our lives! What anguish in a parent when His children do not choose Him nor “the gospel of God” He sent! How easy to love someone who so singularly loves us!

…Jesus did not come to improve God’s view of man nearly so much as He came to improve man’s view of God and to plead with them to love their Heavenly Father as He has always and will always love them. The plan of God, the power of God, the holiness of God, yes, even the anger and the judgment of God they had occasion to understand. But the love of God, the profound depth of His devotion to His children, they still did not fully know—until Christ came.

God’s Love(Children's Songbook #97)

MUSIC

1. We do not see the wind;

We only hear it sigh.

It makes the grasses bend

Whenever it goes by.

2. We do not see God’s love,

But in our hearts we know

He watches over us

Wherever we may go.

3. We do not have to see

To know the wind is here;

We do not have to see

To know God’s love is near.

God wants us to love each other

God wants us to love each other

SCRIPTURE

33 And unto thy brethren have I said, and also given commandment, that they should love one another, and that they should choose me, their Father; but behold, they are without affection, and they hate their own blood;

34 And the fire of mine indignation is kindled against them; and in my hot displeasure will I send in the floods upon them, for my fierce anger is kindled against them.

- Moses 7:33-34

God wants us to love each other

Albert Choules, Jr.

Former Member of the Seventy

Our love of God and Jesus Christ and for each other should undergird all that we do and feel. Love sincerely given brings love in return. Love so shared brings trust, support, and a level of security that is unsurpassed. A child naturally nestles in the arms of his or her mother, seeking love and protection from her who gave life. That kind of innate love seems to exemplify the commandment to love one another. Love of others seems to come so naturally to children.

…But as we get older, something seems to get in the way. It seems more difficult to give and receive sincere love as children do so naturally… Often I have wondered: Why do we as adults have to be commanded to do that which comes so naturally to children? Perhaps that is why Christ said that each of us should strive to become as a little child.

Jesus will come back to earth

SCRIPTURE

59 And Enoch beheld the Son of Man ascend up unto the Father; and he called unto the Lord, saying: Wilt thou not come again upon the earth?...

60 And the Lord said unto Enoch: As I live, even so will I come in the last days, in the days of wickedness and vengeance, to fulfil the oath which I have made unto you concerning the children of Noah;

61 And the day shall come that the earth shall rest, but before that day the heavens shall be darkened, and a veil of darkness shall cover the earth; and the heavens shall shake, and also the earth; and great tribulations shall be among the children of men, but my people will I preserve;

65 And it came to pass that Enoch saw the day of the coming of the Son of Man, in the last days, to dwell on the earth in righteousness for the space of a thousand years;

Jesus will come back to earth

Ronald A. Rasband

Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

No matter how much wickedness and chaos fill the earth, we are promised by our daily faithfulness in Jesus Christ the “peace of God, which passeth all understanding.” And when Christ comes in all power and glory, evil, rebellion, and injustice will end…

Take heart, brothers and sisters. Yes, we live in perilous times, but as we stay on the covenant path, we need not fear. I bless you that as you do so, you will not be troubled by the times in which we live or the troubles that come your way. I bless you to choose to stand in holy places and be not moved. I bless you to believe in the promises of Jesus Christ, that He lives and that He is watching over us, caring for us and standing by us.

When He Comes Again(Children’s Songbook #82)

MUSIC

1. I wonder, when he comes again,

Will herald angels sing?

Will earth be white with drifted snow,

Or will the world know spring?

I wonder if one star will shine

Far brighter than the rest;

Will daylight stay the

whole night through?

Will songbirds leave their nests?

I’m sure he’ll call his little ones

Together ’round his knee,

Because he said in days gone by,

“Suffer them to come to me.”

2. I wonder, when he comes again,

Will I be ready there

To look upon his loving face

And join with him in prayer?

Each day I’ll try to do his will

And let my light so shine

That others seeing me may seek

For greater light divine.

Then, when that blessed day is here,

He’ll love me and he’ll say,

“You’ve served me well,

my little child;

Come unto my arms to stay.”

OPTIONAL 3rd VERSE:

3. I wonder, when he comes again,

Will all the nations bring

Their little children to his arms

To hear the angels sing?

And as they hear his loving voice

And seek his outstretched hand

Will children of the world rejoice

To finally understand

That only as we do his will

Can happiness increase

That love, alone, can make this world

A haven of his peace

In the last days God will gather His elect

SCRIPTURE

62 And righteousness will I send down out of heaven; and truth will I send forth out of the earth, to bear testimony of mine Only Begotten; his resurrection from the dead; yea, and also the resurrection of all men; and righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare, an Holy City, that my people may gird up their loins, and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem.

63 And the Lord said unto Enoch: Then shalt thou and all thy city meet them there, and we will receive them into our bosom, and they shall see us; and we will fall upon their necks, and they shall fall upon our necks, and we will kiss each other;

In the last days God will gather His elect

Neil L. Andersen

Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Have you ever thought about why you were sent to earth at this specific time?...One of your important responsibilities is to help prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Savior. The Lord has long spoken of the necessary preparations for His Second Coming…[and]declared in this dispensation, “Ye are called to bring to pass the gathering of mine elect.”

…Speaking to you, the First Presidency has said: “You are [a] choice [spirit] who [has] come forth in this day when the responsibilities and opportunities, as well as the temptations, are the greatest…We pray for each of you…[that] you can do the great work that lies before you…that you will be worthy [and willing] to carry on the responsibilities of building the kingdom of God and preparing the world for the Second Coming of the Savior.”

Now Let Us Rejoice(Hymn Book #3)

MUSIC

1. Now let us rejoice in the day of salvation.

No longer as strangers on earth need we roam.

Good tidings are sounding to us and each nation,

And shortly the hour of redemption will come,

When all that was promised the Saints will be given,

And none will molest them from morn until ev’n,

And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden,

And Jesus will say to all Israel, “Come home.”

2. We’ll love one another and never dissemble

But cease to do evil and ever be one.

And when the ungodly are fearing and tremble,

We’ll watch for the day when the Savior will come,

When all that was promised the Saints will be given,

And none will molest them from morn until ev’n,

And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden,

And Jesus will say to all Israel, “Come home.”

3. In faith we’ll rely on the arm of Jehovah

To guide thru these last days of trouble and gloom,

And after the scourges and harvest are over,

We’ll rise with the just when the Savior doth come.

Then all that was promised the Saints will be given,

And they will be crown’d with the angels of heav’n,

And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden,

And Christ and his people will ever be one.
