  • At the end of this course you should be able to:
    • Rig the boat by yourself
    • Sail the boat out of the port
    • Know the safety principles of sailing
    • Participate in the “Yngling” trainings
    • Evaluate weather conditions
    • Take a boat out in light to medium weather conditions

Safety first!

  • Weare a life jacket!
    • This is not only recommended but also the law
  • Whatch your head
    • Pay attention to the boom!
  • Check the conditions
    • More on this later
  • Wear enough clothes
    • There is always a chance of falling in the water
  • Never sail in the dark!
    • Our boats do not have lanterns so it is illegal to sail them in the dark
    • Check sundown time before heading out

Forecast

A beginners guide to sailing forecasts:

1-2 m/s = 1-4 knots - very little wind, safe but boring

3-5 m/s = 5-10 knots - perfect, not too windy

6-7 m/s = 11-16 knots - starting to get windy, be careful if you are not with a coach

over 8 m/s = 16 knots and above, not safe for beginners at all

    • You will be put in the “Yngling” group and any event that appears here on spond you are welcome to sign up for.
    • Trainings are always announced on spond and you just click attend to sign up.
    • be quick some trainings are popular and spots go quickly.
    • Honor your commitments! Please come to the trainings you have signed up for and if you absolutely cannot make it, let Siri and Moa know so that the spot may go to someone else.
