Original Concept & Iterations
Kimberly currently suffers from Ushers Syndrome, impacting her vision, hearing, and sense of touch. She can only recognize objects when they are in high contrast to each other, and she finds trouble cooking food which splashes when in contact with oil and high temperatures. A team of engineers have come together to create a product which aids her while cooking, which is easy to apply, clean, and operate. The product must take into consideration her impaired vision, lack of feeling on her fingertips, and her limited hearing. It must also fall under the budget of 100$.

3. Material, Cost, & Construction
Materials | Costs | Printing Time | Construction |
| Lid - $4.99 Upper Stirring Mechanism - $0.95 Lower Stirring Mechanism - $0.72 Attachment - $0.28 Bearing - $0.04 Axle - $0.06 Total - $7.04 | Lid - 6h 2m 20s Upper Stirring Mechanism - 1h 21m Lower Stirring Mechanism - 1h 6m Attachment - 47m 28s Bearing - 4m 52s Axle - 6m 29s Total - 9h 28m 02s | Pot lid includes steam vent, handle for holding during stirring, and hole for mechanism. Bearing placed in centre, with axle attached to a mirrored upper and lower mechanism. Detachable attachments to change when needed. |
04. Product Description & Use
To use, simply place on top of the pot, lining up the markings on the underside to secure it. Using the handle, turn the spinner to mix the food!
05. TESTING OBJECTIVES
Objectives | Metrics |
Measure Temperature | The percentage difference between temperature measured in food vs pot. |
Protect from oil splashes | Volume of liquid spraying out of pot |
Visible/high contrast | Colour contrast ratio |
Objectives | Metrics |
Easy to Use | Scale from 1-10 based on user feedback |
Smoothness of stirring | Scale from 1-10 based on user feedback |
Easy to clean | Scale from 1-10 from inspection |

Must Fit on Pot | Percentage of Surface area of pot that is covered |
05. TESTING PLAN
05. DESIGN REFINEMENTS
The testing plan highlighted flaws in the mechanism including:
Refinements/Iterations after testing:

Stirring mechanism
The pot lid features a manual stirring tool, giving the user complete control over their cooking.
Detachable Parts
The end of the stirring rod can be switched to different stirrers, dependant on the cook’s needs…
Ridged Edges
To use it on a variety of pot sizes, the edges were engraved with creases to fit on all your favourite pots!
