Our Commitment to

In Granite School District (GSD) we are committed to full transparency, and to providing a clear understanding of why, when and how the central office and teachers select and use curriculum and content resources as tools to teach the Utah core standards.

Selecting Instructional Materials in GSD

  • Instructional materials include any written, printed, or digital media content.
  • All central adoptions follow the GSD Instructional Materials Adoption policy, formally titled Article X.A.6.Learning Materials.
  • The content areas of ELA, Math, and Science have materials that are adopted district-wide. Parents participate in the adoption process.
  • For other content areas, we use state approved open educational resources, resources adopted at the school level, and teacher chosen materials.

Teacher Use of Supplementary Materials

  • Teachers have flexibility in selecting supplemental materials at the classroom level.

  • This includes content areas that do not have central adoptions.

  • When teachers choose supplemental materials, they adhere to district policy.

Supplemental materials must be…

  • Age and developmentally appropriate.

  • Relevant, interesting and reflective of our local communities’ students in ways that allow students to understand the core standards.

District Expectation of Neutrality

  • Teachers design and facilitate lessons based directly on the Utah core standards.

  • Teachers remain neutral in regard to subject matter that may require students to consider different perspectives of an issue and form an opinion.

  • A teacher’s neutrality ensures students can learn in a positive environment where varied experiences and opinions are recognized in a respectful way.
