Slab culvert,

  •  A type of culvert, could be three-sided or simply a deck slab. It is embedded in the soil on both sides. The slab provides a bridge over the distance. Slab culverts can replace box culverts if no artificial flooring is necessary.

Foundation -

  • Culverts are usually embedded in the soil which bears the major portion of the culvert load and hence, no deep foundation is required and a spread foundation is enough.

Which part of culvert supports the slab?

  • The culvert, having its superstructure consisting of RCC slab which carries the bridge floor, is known as slab culvert. In this type of culvert, the RCC slab of suitable thickness is provided as simply supported over abutments and piers which are constructed of any suitable type of masonry.

Minimum span of culvert-

Culvert is a buried structure, similar to bridges, consisting of single or multi-span construction with a minimum length of 3m for each span. Two horizontal slabs are cast monolithically with two or more vertical side walls, with a maximum span of 6m

Using command for drawing of culvert

Line command - Specify first point-

Sets the starting point for the line. Click a point location. With object snaps or grid snap turned on, the points will be placed precisely. You can also enter coordinates. If instead, you press Enter at the prompt, a new line starts from the endpoint of the most recently created line, polyline, or arc. If the most recently created object is an arc, its endpoint defines the starting point of the line. The line is tangent to the arc.

Specify next point-

Specifies the endpoint of the line segment. You can also use polar and object snap tracking together with direct distance entry.

Offset-

You can offset an object at a specified distance or through a point. After you offset objects, you can trim and extend them as an efficient method to create drawings containing many parallel lines.

The OFFSET command repeats for convenience. To exit the command, press Enter.

The following prompts are displayed.

Offset Distance

Creates an object at a specified distance from an existing object.

Command copy: To start the Copy tool from the command line, type “CO” and press [Enter]. Select the objects you wish to copy and press [Enter] to accept the selection. Click the base point as the point to copy from.

Fillet command

  1. Click FILLET. or enter F in the Command line.
  2. Select the first object.
  3. Choose Radius in the command options, enter a radius, and press Enter. This number will be the radius of the arc between the two objects you fillet.
  4. Select the second object.

Trim command-We can type ‘TR’ in the command bar and press the ‘Enter’ key two times.

Then direct select those objects or lines which we want to trim from the whole drawing or object.

Right-click for coming out from the selection.

By using this shortcut method, we can trim lines or objects from the drawing easily and quickly.

Hume pipe culvert-

Hume Pipe Culvert (HPC) shall be provided for disposal of storm water through RCC pipes and unflumed canal is taken over the HPC. HPC is economical option for small stream having catchment area up to 50 Ha. (0.50 Sq.Km.) with flood depth up to 1.20 m and for flood discharge upto 10 cumecs.

Hume pipe used-

A hume pipe is formed by pouring concrete into a formwork, and axially rotating it, and allowing it to compact using centrifugal force. A hume pipe can withstand internal and external pressure well, and is primarily used for sewer pipes, agricultural waterways, and residential construction.
