The Fairy Tale Fixers

Chapter 3: The Council of the Pigs

2 of 12

In the end, the Fairy Tale Fixers did decide they would help Winston.

After all, they were The Fairy Tale Fixers.

“Please help me to get everyone to come to my party,” he said. “I don’t want to have a birthday party by myself.”

With that, Winston left the office and the team made a plan.

“Let’s start by talking to the pigs,” they decided.

“We’ll gather up all of the pigs that Winston has upset, and talk to them about why they are cross with him”

The team put posters up everywhere about the meeting.

Has this wolf ever upset you?

If he has, come to a council at the Fairy Tale Fixers office at 12 o’clock tomorrow.

The next day, the Fairy Tale Fixers put out some biscuits for the pigs to eat.

10 party rings10 chocolate digestives12 custard creams

36 chocolate bourbons48 pink wafers

At exactly 12 o’clock there were ten pigs waiting outside to come to the meeting. The Fairy Tale Fixers let them in, and the meeting began.

Fixers

One of the Fairy Tale Fixers began the meeting:

“We are trying to help Winston Wolf,”, he said, “and we’d like to know why you are so cross with him.”Here are some of the things the pigs said.

He blew down my house!

Mine too!

He tried to EAT me!

He stole my cupcakes!

He’s so LOUD and he makes me jump!

He scares me with his sharp teeth!

Pretend to be one of these pigs - what voice do you think they’d use? Do you think there is anything else they would be upset about?

The Fairy Tale Fixers wrote down everything the pigs said. The meeting finished at 2 o’clock and the pigs went home.

“What are we going to do about Winston?” asked one of the team.

“He needs to start making this better.”

How can Winston the Wolf make things better? Do you have any ideas? Talk about it with your grown-ups.

  1. He blew down houses

2. He tried to eat the pigs

3. He is loud and scares them

4. He stole cupcakes

Problems with the Big Bad Wolf

Fairy Tale Fixers’ Job:

When the pigs had gone home, the Fairy Tale Fixers tidied up. We are going to look at each plate of biscuits to work out how many are left.

For each slide, you will need: 10 biscuits, or pictures of biscuits, or counters, or cubes, or something else.

Y1 you will need some 10 rods and 1s, like the ones on the next slide. You can print these off or you can draw them/make them yourself.

If you like (Y1 should definitely try this), you can draw the problem to help you

Don’t forget to use objects to help you. You can use anything to pretend to be the biscuits.

Can you explain your ideas to someone else? Can you tell them what the answer is and how you know?

For a challenge, you could write the matching number sentence with the correct symbols (YR we haven’t done much of this, but have a go!)

Y1 children could do all of the problems. YR children can do the first three and then continue if they are keen.
