Create Your Final Product

It’s finally time to put all of your pieces together!

First, take a moment with your team to review your pitch packet. Make sure that it includes the following:

  • The problem you are trying to solve
  • Your chosen audience
  • A platform and medium
  • A draft of your science idea and framing
  • Your call to action
  • The written components of your final piece
  • A draft or sketch of the visual components of your piece
  • The tools that you need to create your piece

Then it’s time to get creating! You know what to do. Use your pitch packet as a guide to create your final social media piece!

Give & Gather Feedback

Use the same format you used to pitch in Session 9:

  • Team A spends three minutes sharing their piece.
  • Next, Team B spends two minutes giving feedback, highlighting parts they liked and parts that could be improved. While receiving feedback, Team A should listen silently aside from answering clarifying questions.
  • At the end, Team A spends one minute describing the changes they want to make as a result of the feedback.
  • Finally, the two teams switch places and repeat the process.

Questions to keep in mind when reviewing pitches

  • Is the science idea clear?
  • Is there a clear call to action?
  • Does the research team have a clear audience, platform, and medium, and do they all correlate with each other?

Share

Now that you’ve finalized your social media piece, it’s time to show it off!

Keep the following in mind as you engage with other social media pieces

  • Does the call to action address an audience?
  • Did the group choose to address a problem differently from you?
  • Is their call to action effective? Why or why not?
  • Which social media piece was your favorite? What made it so engaging to you?

Reflect

Photo space.

In your field notebook, take a few minutes to reflect on your experiences during the MPA Exploration program:

  • What did you learn? What was your favorite part? What did you struggle with?
  • What challenges do you think scientists face in protecting places like Crystal Cove?
  • Why is it important to be able to communicate more broadly with our community?
  • How can we do a better job of making sure that everyone in our community is included in that process?
