Week 1: WALT to solve addition and subtraction problems.

Give learners maths problems to observe strategies they use and attempt to use to solve addition and subtraction problems using tens and ones

Notice how these strategies match GLOSS data from year-end 2016. Evidence gathered to be used to inform future planning.

Week 2: WALT to solve addition and subtraction problems;

and WALT read and use data a graph.

Discuss features of a graph: title, axes, labels, numbers.

Week 3:

WALT use place value to solve addition and subtraction problems.

What do you notice about [3 digit number]?

Include/incorporate vocabulary of place value: eg digit, place value, value, hundred, hundreds.
Model saying number, writing in words, giving value of digits and expanding the number as introduction to place value practice activity.
Repeat number knowledge warm up daily.
Students to work independently to complete practice activity.
Problem-solving: unpack problem with group before students work in pairs to discuss and find solutions to the problems.

Week 4:

WALT use place value to solve addition and subtraction problems.

Warm-up: reinforce vocabulary of place value (digit, place value, value, hundred, hundreds, etc) through discussion and unpacking of a 3 digit number.
Model saying number, writing in words, giving value of digits and expanding the number as introduction to place value practice activities.
Daily number knowledge warm up to support independent completion of practice activity.
Problem-solving: unpack problem with group before students work in pairs to discuss and find solutions to the problems. Reinforce that explanation of problem-solving requires words as well as digits.

Week 5:

WALT find numbers that make ten to solve addition problems.

Daily Xtra Math and Maths Whizz to support number knowledge acquisition.
Warm-up: number knowledge to embed place value concepts: numbers 10, 100 before/after.
Students to complete number knowledge practice activities independently in Maths books.
With teacher: Using materials (tens frames, blocks), unpack a problem (like 4 + 3 + 6 =) and discuss strategies to solve. Which most efficient?
Independent/buddy problem-solving in Google presentation. Reinforce explanation of problem-solving requires words as well as digits.
Students to share problem-solving presentation via individual blogs.

Week 7:

WALT gather, sort and display data.

Daily Xtra Math and Maths Whizz to support number knowledge acquisition.
Strand: Statistics. To take the learning opportunities presented by Year 5 and 6 camp, students will explore how we gather, sort and display data.
What is data? How do we collect data? Discuss and explore different ways: show of hands, groupings, post-its, Google forms. Anonymous v. public?

Sorting data: how will we sort?
Displaying data: explore strip graph, pictograph, bar graph. What are key elements of graph?
Students to create a personal pictograph to display data collected by class. Students to share personal pictograph via individual blogs.

Week 8:

WALT add in parts by breaking numbers to make ten.

Daily Xtra Math and Maths Whizz to support number knowledge acquisition.
Warm-up: number knowledge to embed place value concepts: numbers 10, 100 before/after.
Students to complete number knowledge practice activities independently in Maths books to support learning from Week 5.
With teacher: Using materials, unpack and discuss problems to solve addition and subtraction problems which go through ten.
Independent/buddy problem-solving in Google presentation. Reinforce explanation of problem-solving requires words as well as digits.
Students to share problem-solving presentation via individual blogs.

Weeks 9 and 10: Measurement - time

WALT change between analogue and digital time.

Daily Xtra Math and Maths Whizz to support number knowledge acquisition.
Warm-up: number knowledge to make connections between 15, 30 and 60, ie numbers important to concepts of time, hours and minutes.
As some students have begun to wear watches to school and many are showing an interest in telling the time, it seems an appropriate time to include some Measurement in our Maths programme.
Students to work as a whole class, group and independently during the week in order to complete activities related to the history of telling the time, analogue and digital time activities and problems.
Students to share presentation via individual blogs upon completion.
Then, students to complete unfinished addition/subtraction problem-solving presentations from prior weeks.

Week 11: Number

WALT work out our 6, 7 and 8 times tables from our 5 times table.

Daily Xtra Math and Maths Whizz to support number knowledge acquisition.
Group warm-up: Beep & Buzz: skip-counting practice: 3 and 5; and questioning to check knowledge of 5 times table.
As a group, unpack problem-solving presentation and work through problems exploring arrays based on needs of individuals within group.
Students to complete problem-solving presentation individually.
Students to share problem-solving presentation via individual blogs.
Independent - learners to:

Complete what’s my number presentation (reinforcing number knowledge) for sharing on individual blog.
Practise multiplication facts using cards with a buddy.
Complete any unfinished practice activities.
