Cookie Based Check

The most basic check is a cookie-based check to ensure that sharer does not come back as a friend. This is done by cookie-ing all sharers and friends separately.

IP Based Check

The second level of check is IP based checks and IP logging. This is done to ensure the IP address of the sharer and the referrer is different. If, yes, there is more reliability of it not being the same person.

Social Identity Based Check

Additionally, if you use our integration of Social Login, there is an additional level of security to ensure that the referrer has a verified Facebook identity associated. If not, we can add the authentication step within Refer-A-Friend as well.

Domain Based Check

There is the ability to block certain domains (associated with temporary addresses) as well as IP ranges that have been associated with fraudulent behavior in the past.

Abnormal Activity Sweeps

Additionally, abnormal activity can be monitored and flagged for review if necessary (example: multiple successful referrals within a matter of hours).

Referral ID Based Fraud Prevention

Accounts can be assigned a unique Referral ID and this will exist within their MyAccount Experience. Even if multiple individuals were to use the same computer, we would be able to identify four different people associated with four different accounts. This can be combined with a Social Identity Based Check for additional protection.
