Post-High School
Apprenticeships are a great way for students interested in Building and Construction Trades to begin their career. With this “earn as you learn” model, students would be on their jobsite four days a week, and then spend one day a week in a classroom setting. Students get excellent hands-on experience in addition to classroom instruction. Students would be able to increase their wages significantly in three to five years using this model.
Students could also attend Hennepin Technical College (HTC) after graduating from Bloomington Public Schools through the T2C program or on their own.

If students want to continue on towards earning a Cosmetology license, they could earn up to 738 hours towards their license (Cosmetology license is 1,550 hours, so students could get nearly halfway to their license by taking classes at BCCA!). This could save them approximately $8,000.

This is a 2 year degree at HTC and requires 60 total credits. If a student takes all 3 trimesters of our Fire courses along with EMR/EMT and Intro to Criminal Justice, a student could have 24 of the 60 credits completed for a savings of $4,844.
Students can potentially apply for our T2C program to get an additional year of classes at HTC for free. This would be a cost savings of roughly $4,750.
If students participated in T2C and completed all of the classes possible at BCCA, they’d have very minimal courses remaining for their Fire Science AAS Degree that they would have to pay on their own.
