History and Context

First meeting discussing Guided Pathways (GP) organized by Lorena Chavez and presented by Dr. Ortiz.

Spring 2018

​Dr. Kennedy announced to Leadership that GP mapping sessions would be part of CEC’s Leadership meetings in the fall through the November deadline.

Fall 2018

A formal discussion of GP began. Counselor Maria Aguilar Beltran assisted in the discussion and integration of GP at SCE.

​Noncredit Mapping Counselors began helping each SCE department with their maps while classified staff and other leaders discussed their role in GP.

GP 101 Classified informal session to create Design Teams aligned to the 4 Pillars.

Design teams met and shared all meeting minutes via a Canvas SCE GP shell. ​

​A qualitative survey was sent out to all SCE faculty/staff focusing on GP themes.

All SCE departments submitted submitted and finalized by March 2019.

Spring 2019

Survey surfaced action items for Spring 2019. Themes: A better understanding of our mission (a common purpose), clarifying information across all departments for all and students, and creating more engagement across SCE for all.

Created opportunities for SCE faculty/staff to learn more about our GP journey, continued putting to practice Growth Mindset and Habits of Mind

Cross Collaboration

Since 2018, many non-credit faculty were part of Credit Guided Pathways Design Teams.

Many had active roles including Co-Leading the Curriculum Mapping Team for the entire campus.

Credit Guided Pathways Coordinator led a GP forum & professional development keynote for Noncredit faculty & staff.

Noncredit SCE GP Coordinator part of the Core GP Team.

Other Factors

Articulation discussions between Noncredit career ed. to Credit pathways (culinary, welding, etc.).

AB 705 and SCFF impacting discussions around reducing units, seems like Noncredit fits into this discussion.

GP Comms. team identified integrating Continuing Education into all communications for 19-20 AY.

Recognized need for clearer transitions between Credit and Noncredit. (counseling/advising)

Lessons Learned So Far

  • Everyone needs to be part of the GP conversation, especially classified.
  • Be flexible and maintain a Growth Mindset while working on GP.
  • The recorded virtual Meet and Greets are a great way to bring the community together, both Credit & Noncredit.
  • Continue to be at the table and showcase the value Noncredit has in the GP journey of our students.
