1.Introduction

  • Myanmar's complex history and diverse population make federalism a crucial factor in its politics since independence.

  • The lack of civic education in the Myanmar education system has distanced its citizens from the concept of federalism.

  • This gap in understanding has made it difficult for citizens to grasp the historical context, leading to a cycle of conflicts and hindering political progression.

Objectives and goals

We aim to

  • support future leaders of Myanmar with the fundamentals of federalism as civic education.

  • provide with the necessary tools and insights to navigate discussions about federalism and contribute to informed civic dialogue in Myanmar.

  • enhance the critical thinking of youths 15-18, educate about the basics of federalism, and engage in civic activities as citizens of Myanmar.

4. Results and Challenges

Challenges

  • Limited engagement from very small population of the students
  • Communication challenges due to anonymity for security concerns of the topic
  • Sudden electricity shortage occurred in both sides of the students, facilitator and instructor

Results

  • Active participation from the majority of students
  • Two-hours sessions balanced with lectures and effective discussions
  • Pre-assessment surveys benefited preparing the lessons
  • Post-assessment surveys assure the effective implementation of the course

6. Summary

  • Creating project proposals, researching, preparing for lessons, and lectures and slides, recruiting participants
  • Each class took 2 hours long, balancing the lecture and discussion sessions
  • Experienced challenges such as electrical and connection issues, but, we managed to overcome these obstacles with effective resolutions
  • Achieved objectives of providing civic education on Fundamentals of Federalism to students from diverse geological backgrounds aged 15 to 18
  • Introduction to Federalism workshop successfully engaged with all registered 29 participants, with impressive attendance and active participation
