PE: In term one (till October half term), we will have PE on Tuesday (with Boost PE) and Friday afternoons.

Children will need to wear Parkside PE kit to school on these days. This includes wearing a Parkside jumper. If the weather is cold, your child can bring in another jumper to wear for the PE lesson.

If your child has long hair, they will need to have a hair band in school to tie back their hair. If children are unable to remove their ear rings, please provide some earring tape

Snacks: Children can choose to eat a snack during morning break. If you would like to pack your child a healthy snack (like fruit or crackers/breadsticks) for this time no nuts please!

Everyday after lunch we do TTRockstars, the children’s log ins are the same as last year so they can still play at home.

High Five!

Your child should be reading as often as possible. If they are a free reader, this does not always need to be with an adult.

We encourage your child to choose a book that is a good challenge for them. If they are reading from a book band they can also choose to bring home a book from the class or school library to share with an adult.

If your child is still reading in a more structured way, they will be heard regularly to check on their progress.

This year we are continuing with our reading incentive scheme called My High Five - a letter will be sent home with more information.

Please can reading diaries be sent into school on a Monday so we can record their progress. Changing books in KS2 is more fluid, books can be changed on other days, but diaries need to be checked.

Home Learning

Every week, there will usually be:

Maths: There will usually be a written piece of work set every week.

This is usually a mix of recap work.

The children are also expected to work on TT rockstars at home at least four times per week.

Spelling or English: There will also usually be a spelling activity or work linked to current learning sent.

We recognise that the children are still very young in Year 3 so while we would expect them to do the tasks that are set, starting good habits, they won’t be punished if they don’t do it.

Additional to this, it is expected that children are aiming to read for at least 15 minutes 5 times a week.

Checking understanding

Most assessment in Year 3 will be informal and your child will be unaware of it happening.

They will also be given quizzes at the end of units to check their understanding and to identify any areas that they may need help in.

More formal SATs style tests are administered three times a year (just like in Year 2). These are a very useful and prepare the children well for end of Key Stage SATs. Once again, they also help us to see if there are any areas in which they may need help.

These are administered sensitively and without pressure and most children enjoy them.

Times Tables

This year, there will be a big focus on times tables.

Your child should already know their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

By the end of Year 3, they must know the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10s

Each child will have an individual table for them to work on each week .

Communication

I will be in school each morning (except Friday) to greet your child. This is not the best time to speak to me because I will be busy with the children, but if it is an essential piece of information I will need to know for the day, please pass this to the school office.

I am free to speak after school and to do this it is best to contact the school office to arrange a meeting. Please never hesitate to communicate any concerns that you may have so that I can address them promptly. My email address is year3teachers@parksideprimary.org

This is a new email address that is accessed from school and accessed by all teachers (the old ones are no longer in use) If something is urgent it is best to through the school office. I do aim to get to messages as quickly as possible but if I haven’t it’s usually because I need to find further information or have been busy elsewhere.

Your child will have a new google classroom account that messages, home work etc will be sent through - we’re in the process of setting them up and will let you know when they are up and running.

I look forward to working with you this school year to support your child.
