  • SCOPUS: researcher’s publication record
  • JCR: journal quality → try Q1/Q2 journals
  • Begin with keywords: authors, themes, topics etc.

How to search & read literatures: Information extraction

  • Title & Abstract

→ suits your research? What is it aiming at?

  • Introduction (literature review)

→ research backgrounds, knowledge gaps, unsolved issues, objectives

→ story-telling techniques

→ details of workflow, materials, analyzing methods

→ what have been done? Is it reasonable and correct?

  • Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA):

- Plan: literature review, gather much more data, evaluate data quality, access resource availability

→plan & visualize your experiments.

- Do: execute your experiments.

- Check: analyze results and collected data, if out-of-expectation, ask why.

- Act: make discussions & standard operating procedure (SOP)

→ correct, adjust, improve, optimize

How to prepare presentations

  • First, arrange and organize data

→ numbers, tables, charts, plots, images, videos…

  • Numbers: effectiveness, statistical meaning
  • Table/chart/plot: include items, parameters, units, scale, legendary
  • Data visualization: MS Excel, OriginLab, Python (pyplotlib)
  • Sense of beauty: left-to-right, dark-to-light, blue-to-red..
