Governor’s Requirement & Senate Bill 98

Safe in-person school based on local health data

  • Schools located in counties that are on the Monitoring List must not physically open for in-person instruction until their county has come off the Monitoring List for 14 consecutive days.
  • Solano is on the monitoring list.

Governor outlines practices should there be Coronavirus cases within the school community that includes contract tracing along with guidance on masks and social distancing.

Governor’s Requirement & Senate Bill 98

Rigorous distance learning

  • Devices and connectivity will be provided as needed so that every child can participate in distance learning
  • Daily live interaction will occur for every child with teachers and other students
  • Class assignments that are challenging and equivalent to in-person instruction
  • Targeted supports and interventions for English learners and special education students
    1. In BUSD we will offer targeted supports for students who are struggling and meet identified criteria

Technology and Access

  • 1584 devices have been ordered to provide 1:1 to all TK-12 students
  • 250 devices ordered to replace outdated staff devices and for identified classified
  • Investigating options for internet access support
  • Distribution process & back-up plan

Registration Process & Progress

  • Registration opened August 3, 2020
  • Registration open though August 17, 2020
  • Important to complete student acceptable technology use in sign off forms to be able to access instruction
  • To date 1810 families have registered

Schedule Information

  • Students will be enrolled at their normal school and assigned to the school’s typical bell schedule
  • Daily instruction will be both synchronous and asynchronous
  • Supports for students, including student well-being, will be available in addition to instructional time
  • Students will have an individual learning device and necessary curriculum to fully participate in their classes
  • Households that need connectivity will receive support
  • Attendance will be taken each day and for each class
  • Standards Based Report cards at the elementary level and grades at the secondary level for all students

Lunch Service

  • Lunch pick up at all sites
  • Coincide with student schedule
  • Sign up to do a “one stop” pick up for families with students at multiple sites
  • Waiting on guidance to learn if all students will receive free lunch

Process: If Free Lunch for All is Not Approved by Congress

  • Parents will have to receive meals by their eligibility status
  • Students will need money in their accounts for the Paid and Reduced eligibility
  • Food services will send an email to all parents with the instructions & parents will have to let us know where they will pick up the meals and student names
  • There will be a roster for each school and a roster for the families pick up (if they pick up for all their students at one school)
  • There will be a table with a tent set up at each school (LHS still in process)
  • Lunch pick up times to be determined by each school lunch schedule (1 hour)

Process: If Free Lunch for All IS Approved by Congress

  • Parents will receive meals for free like last school year
  • Food Services will send an email to all parents with the instructions and parents will have to let me know where they will pick up the meals and student names
  • There will be a table with a tent set up at each school (LHS in process).
  • Lunch pick up times to be determined by each school lunch schedule (1 hour)

Staff Safety Protocols

  • Staff may choose to work on site
  • Electronic sign-in sheet to promote HVAC, safety and cleaning
  • Safety protocols sent out to all staff
    • Entering School Sites or District Office
    • Shared Spaces
    • Self Monitor for Illness

Virtual Academy

  • Option for 100% Virtual Academy only during Hybrid or Full in-person return only
  • Families will have option to commit to Virtual Academy when we prepare to move into Hybrid or Full in-person instruction
  • Work to minimize disruption for families opting for 100% Virtual Academy
  • Work with teachers to develop Virtual Academy
    • Will likely closely resemble Virtual Learning Model this Fall
