Let’s talk about:

What is narrative shift? Why track narrative shift? What does this look like in practice?

Other examples, where do we go from here?

NARRATIVE SHIFT:

“A public narrative is a story that helps us understand our world.”

Narrative shift is just changing a piece of that story.

Trackable

Why NOT track narrative shift:

  • Scale (tools aren’t built for us)

  • Capacity (time + money)

  • Uncertainty (what do we track?!)

  • Perception (tracking as fake)

WHY track narrative shift:

  • To win.

  • Stop narratives that are not strategic or are outright harmful.

  • Locally: more possibilities for changing what is possible.

  • Message: Rent control is gaining momentum.

  • Audience: Electeds in key districts, but keep focus on popular support.

  • Medium: (Media, actions).

  • Tracking: Momentum in action articles/earned media we want? Great.

What does Narrative Shift look like in your work?

How do you see narrative shift (planning it, tracking it, fighting for it, talking about it)?

Questions I have for others:

  • How do you share metrics/reccs back to members?

  • How does this change beyond local?

  • How do you prioritize narrative shift?

  • How do we keep this convo going?
