Jackson Pollock

Paul Jackson Pollock was an American painter and become very important for the abstract expressionist art movement. He was widely known for his technique of pouring or splashing paint onto a flat surface.

Jackson Pollock created art by dripping and splashing paint on a large canvas. This type type of painting requires the artist to move around a lot and is often called action painting.

Pollock was introduced to the use of liquid paint in 1936 at an experimental workshop in New York City. After this workshop he began painting with his canvases laid out on the studio floor, and he developed what was later called his drip technique.

By laying the canvas flat on the floor rather than on an upright surface, he added a new dimension and was being able to view and apply paint to his canvases from all directions.

Today we will be creating our own abstract art using Jackson Pollock’s dripping action techniques.
