Our Field Trip:The Philadelphia Zoo
Mrs. Kerr & Mrs. Rowe’s Fourth Grade, September 2019
Mrs. Rowe’s Favorite Part of Our Trip
I most enjoyed watching all of our students get so excited to see all of the different animals. It was so much fun to see all of you smile and laugh while learning and getting to experience so many new things! It was awesome to see how kind and helpful you were to each other also.
I will always remember you all dancing with the penguins and trying to get the perfect selfie with them :-)
I wish we could take more trips together!
Mrs. Kerr’s Favorite Part of Our Trip
My favorite part of the trip was seeing everyone so happy! I liked when we came around to the first set of animals--the emus and wallabies! Everyone got so excited to see their first zoo animals and then it only got better and better! We practiced standing on one leg like flamingos, played with the penguins, and were amazed by the gorillas.
Mostly I loved seeing smiles all day long and watching you check out all the animals with your friends.
I loved the whole day--it was a great day!
We’re so excited!
Thank you Ms. Levan for coming along to have fun with us! We appreciate you!
Here we go. Let the fun begin!
Mr. Sellers and Mrs. Vojtasek were a lot of fun on the bus ride. Thank you for making our trip even more memorable!
How many adults and students does it take to read a sign at the Philadelphia Zoo? It took us more than it should have. We couldn’t decide which way to go.
The emus were on the move and very quick.
We wish we could have gotten even closer to the wallabies.
Everyone was willing to smile for a picture and if they weren’t, it was because they were taking the picture.
We had fun watching the flamingos. They were very noisy.
We learned they got their pink color from the food they eat.
We learned they prefer to stand on one foot.
Can you believe the Philadelphia Zoo opened in 1874? There are nearly 1,300 animals that live at the zoo. The zoo has more than 1.2 million visitors each year.
WOW!
Can you see the giraffe in these pictures?
It is almost camouflaged.
The giraffes were a favorite place for many to stand and watch because there was a baby giraffe and he was very cute.
Did you know a zebra is really black with white stripes?
The name rhinoceros means 'nose horn' and is often shortened to rhino.
The perfect smile for viewing the playful penguins!
The penguins loved all the attention.
We spent a lot of time watching the penguins swim and trying to capture the perfect selfie.
We learned that penguins cannot fly. We also learned that they spend half their time in the water and the other half on land.
If they could have climbed in they would have. :-)
Say Cheese!
We had fun watching the gorilla as he played in the sun.
Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Orangutans, and more
Gorillas have hands and feet like humans including opposable thumbs and big toes.
Some gorillas in captivity have learned to use sign language to communicate with humans.
We learned gorillas live in small groups called troops or bands. Gorillas live around 35 years.
Thank you Mr. Isamoyer for taking time out of your schedule to come along to enjoy the fun!
This orangutan was playing peek-a-boo and we had fun watching him.
Orangutans are on the endangered species list.
Fun times with friends in fourth grade!
We learned that the red panda lives in the mountain forests of Asia.
They have long tails that help them keep their balance to climb trees.
They get to be the size of a cat.
Super Sweet Smiling Girls
Crazy Cool Handsome Boys
We learned that lions live in a group called a pride.
The tigers at the Philadelphia Zoo are Amur tigers. We learned the tiger is the biggest species of the cat family. We also learned that all have a unique set of stripes that make them different.
Best trip ever!
Can’t wait to come here again!
Best day this year!
Thank you Mr. Baylor and Mr. Payne! Best Principals Ever!
Memories are forever!
We had a wonderful trip! This memory will always bring a smile to our faces!
