What Are AP Exams?
Optional
AP Exams are OPTIONAL.
Not Your Final
They do NOT replace your course final exam.
No Grade Impact
They do NOT affect your course grade or graduation requirements.
College Payoff
They CAN earn college credit or placement, depending on your score and the college’s policy.
5
Step 1: Create Your College Board Account
1
Go to the official College Board sign-up portal, select Student.
2
Enter full legal name, date of birth, and HS graduation year.
3
Use a personal email you’ll keep after graduation (not a school email).
4
Add UT High School as your school of record — CEEB code 440344.
5
Set a password + security phrase, then verify your email.
6
Join AP Classroom with your join code(s) — next slides.
6
Find Your Scenario
Which path matches your student?
1
Testing @ UTHS in Austin
You’re a UTHS student testing at our Austin site.
2
Not Taking the Exam
You’re enrolled in the course but skipping the exam.
3
Testing Somewhere Else
You’re a UTHS student testing at another school.
4
Independent Learner, Testing at Your Own School
You study independently and need 2 join codes.
7
Scenario 1: Testing @ UTHS in Austin
1
Log in or create your College Board account
2
Enter your UTHS join code
3
Set exam intent to YES
4
Confirm enrollment appears in AP Classroom
5
Pay for your exam (see Payment slide)
6
Notify the AP Coordinator right away if your intent changes
8
Scenario 2: Not Taking the Exam
1
Log in or create your College Board account
2
Enter your UTHS join code
3
Set exam intent to NO
4
Confirm enrollment shows “not registered for exam”
5
Notify the AP Coordinator if you change your mind before the deadline
9
Scenario 3: Testing Somewhere Else
1
Log in or create your College Board account
2
Enter your UTHS join code
3
Find an approved AP test site: apcourseaudit.inflexion.org/ledger
4
Contact that school’s AP Coordinator directly
5
Request an EXAM ONLY join code; enter it after UTHS’s code
6
Your exam location appears on your AP Classroom dashboard
7
Pay that test site directly for your exam
8
Notify UTHS’s AP Coordinator if your intent changes
You handle payment and enrollment with the other school directly — UTHS provides your home join code and can help you find an approved site.
10
Scenario 4: Independent Learner — 2 Join Codes
STEP 1
Join your online provider’s instructional section
1
Get a join code from your online provider / virtual teacher
2
Enter it at myap.collegeboard.org
3
Set intent to NO — you’re not testing with the provider
4
This gives you AP Classroom access
STEP 2
Join this school’s exam section
1
Get a second join code from this school’s AP Coordinator
2
Enter it as your second join code
3
Join as Exam Only; set intent to YES
4
This connects you to exam ordering at this school
You must join BOTH sections — without the home-school exam section, no exam will be ordered for you.
11
Can We Help You Test at Another School?
“My student wants to test at a different school (not UTHS) — can you help?”
YES
We can point you to the approved AP test site locator apcourseaudit.inflexion.org/ledger and provide your UTHS join code so you can request an Exam-Only code from that school.
NO
UTHS cannot register you at another school or collect that school’s exam fee — you contact that school’s AP Coordinator directly, and you pay that school directly for your exam.
