8:40am School Opens the gates close at 8:50am. If arrive after this time, you will need go to the school office via the Frinton Road gate.

12:00 -13:00 Lunch Time- Children eat their lunch in the school hall. Then they play in the playground, supervised by midday supervisors.

3:15pm Home Time- Collect your child from the Playground by Frinton Road. Late children will be collected from the school office.

If your child is unwell or has an appointment. Please record this on the Studybugs app.

Good attendance is important because:

  • statistics show a direct link between educational achievement and absence levels
  • regular attenders make better progress, both socially and academically
  • regular attenders find school routines, schoolwork and friendships easier to maintain
  • regular attenders find learning more satisfying
  • regular attenders find transition points easier to manage

Dark grey or bottle green tights or white socks

Headscarves must be black or dark green, without diamante and decorations.

Black school shoes / black trainers (No flashing lights)

Whole school:� No jewellery, except for one plain stud in each ear.� Long hair should be tied back and hair accessories should be dark green or black� Outerwear (coats, hats, scarves, gloves etc…) can be any colour� All uniform and outerwear should be clearly labelled

PE

In Year 2 we have 2 PE lessons a week.

We will have PE on Monday and Tuesdays

Please ensure that your child comes to these days in their PE kit.

  • Plain black shorts/ Plain black jogging bottoms

Jewellery- On health and safety grounds, we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school. The exceptions to this rule are small, plain stud earrings in pierced ears, a watch and small objects of religious significance. We ask the children either to remove these objects during PE and games, or to cover them with a plaster.

One of the PE lessons will be taught by Coach Cardisha, a professional sports coach from Merton Schools Sports Partnership.

We also attend Merton sporting competitions across the school year.

Children in Year 2 will have a weekly music lesson with Miss Hefsteinsdóttir our music teacher from Merton Music Foundation.

Each year group learns to play a different instrument.

Year 2 will be studying ‘General Musicianship and glockenspiel’

Home Learning:

Short piece of homework set each week, alternating between English and Maths.

Spelling: practiced and tested weekly.

This format will then continue. Completed work needs to be returned to school for marking.

Year 2 Autumn

English: Writing activities will be based around the stories:

Vlad and the Great Fire of London and The Leopard’s Drum

A range of genres will emerge from this topic that we will cover with great excitement.

Some writing milestones:

Greater range of punctuation including commas, apostrophes ( + Year 1 punctuation)

Greater range of connectives including but, so, when, then, or, if, that.

We will aim to make the writing flow and entertain the reader.

Handwriting : a new Letter-join handwriting scheme

Spellings: Given to children as handouts. Practised at school and at home.

Test every Tuesday.

Numeracy: Continue to implement White Rose Scheme strategies,

Autumn: Place Value, Addition and subtraction, Shapes

Key facts to learn off by heart in Year 2 are: please practice number bonds as it will immensely help your child to progress in their maths learning. Also practice counting in 2s, 5s and 10s as it will help with multiplication.

Addition: 3+8, 3+9,4+7,4+8,4+9,5+4,5+6,6+7,8+7,8+9,5+9,6+9,5+7,5+8,6+8

Multiplication: X10, X5, X2 tables

History: The Great Fire of London

Geography: Kenya

Science: Animals including Humans

Can I bring in cakes and party bags to celebrate my child’s birthday? No, due to allergies we suggest you donate a book or toy to your classes book corner.
