Information and Digital Footprints
In this lesson . . .
We’ll learn what information is OK to share online.
What are some examples of private or personal information?
Did You Know?

It helps you feel good! Sharing positive experiences helps you remember them, even after they’re over.
It helps you learn! Sharing knowledge helps everyone be more informed.
It helps you connect! Sharing your interests is a way to make new friends and strengthen relationships.
It helps you persuade! Sharing what you care about can inspire others to act and to support good causes.
The human brain is wired to share with others.
When your brain gets excited, you feel emotions, and something called the “autonomic nervous system” causes you to want to share with others.
Sharing with others has lots of cool benefits:

Discussion Question
Digital Footprints
Much like the fossils that animals leave behind or the footprints that we might leave behind on a walk, we also leave behind footprints when we are online. Those footprints, called digital footprints, are similar to fossils because they can tell alot about us and can last for a very long time.
KEY VOCABULARY
A record of what you do online, including the sites you visit and the things you post. It can also include things that others post that involve you, such as pictures or comments.
Digital Footprint
Digital Footprints
Digital footprints can last a long time and we are not always in control of what becomes part of our footprint. Because of this, there are some responsibilities we have when it comes to being online.
This is why it is important to think about the information and content that you post online. Once it is online, it can be difficult to control the information and how it is used.
KEY VOCABULARY
A duty you have to yourself or others
Responsibility
What do you think some of our responsibilities are for being online? Both to ourselves and to others?
