What is the English Language Proficient Assessment for California (ELPAC)?/¿Qué es el examen del lenguaje en inglés ELPAC?
The ELPAC has three purposes/Propósitos del ELPAC
Two ELPAC Assessments/Dos tipos de Exámenes
Initial Assessment (all year long)
•Administered once to students for the first time for the purpose of determining whether or not the student is an English Learner (EL)/Prueba que se da a cualquier estudiante nuevo en California para determinar si es un aprendiz de inglés.
Summative Assessment (Spring)
•Administered to English Learners annually for the purpose of measuring growth/Prueba que se da anualmente para evaluar el progreso de los aprendices de inglés.
What Does the ELPAC Assess?/¿Qué examina el ELPAC?
The Initial ELPAC has 3 Performance Levels (Niveles Iniciales)
•Initial Fluent English Proficient (IFEP): These students have well developed oral and written English skills/ Estos estudiantes tienen un nivel alto y competente en inglés.
•Intermediate English Learner: These students have moderately developed English skills. Tested each year until they meet reclassification requirements/ Estos estudiantes tienen un nivel moderado, tienen que desarrollar su inglés, y toman la prueba cada año hasta que se reclasifiquen.
•Novice English Learner: These students have minimally developed English skills. Tested each year until they meet reclassification requirements/ Estudiantes que tienen un nivel básico y tienen que desarrollar su inglés. Toman la prueba cada año hasta que se reclasifiquen.
Summative ELPAC Performance Levels/(Niveles de Progreso Anual)
4 | Students with well developed (bien desarrollado) English Skills. They can use English in a variety of social and academic contexts. |
3 | Students with moderately developed (moderadamente desarrollado) English skills. They can sometimes use English to learn new things at school and to interact in social situations. |
2 | Students with somewhat developed (algo desarrollado) English skills. They usually need help using English to learn new things at school and to interact in social situations. |
1 | Students at the beginning (nivel básico emergente) level of English. They need help to learn new things and interact socially. They may know some English words and phrases (Newcomers). |
