What made a talk good for you all?

Clear and Concise Explanation, Engaging and Interactive, Appropriate Level of Difficulty

The perspective of the speaker was very insightful, e.g. rather than citing definitions from slides, they explained motivation and where certain definitions would come from. This made me feel "close" to the mathematics as I was able to hint at deeper concepts.

What made a talk good for you all?

The speaker made it very engaging by using examples that the audience would themselves understand or have experienced.

Good coverage of background material to get everyone caught up before the more technical material; clear diagrams that were explained well; historical developments were effectively used to motivate the subject.

The speaker made sure to pull the entire crowd into the talks; they explained things in a way that people without a background in math can understand.

What made a talk good for you all?

The most helpful part that made the talk effective was the visual aspect, when it is all theoretical without an example to work with it is easy to become disinterested or overwhelmed with information that is hard to process.

The speaker used visuals and animations that aid their explanations, and they talked using hand gestures which also help me understand what they were saying.

Work on its format in your teams. (Talks will be 15 minutes long+ 5 for questions and should be geared toward undergraduate students.)
