The Teacher Residency Program is an accelerated course of study that centers on a year-long student teaching placement at a single school site.

12 months to complete Credential + optional MA

Program starts in the Summer

Application Deadline: April 1

Grant Funded $34,000 - $34,500 stipend!!

Teacher Residents also eligible for Golden State Teacher Grant up to $10,000

Teacher Residency Districts

Residency Program is a partnership with local districts -- selected for their commitment to serving a diverse population and for the support they provide new teachers. Not available in every distric.

    • San Jose Consortium - still has openings for AY 25-26
      • Oak Grove Elementary School District, Campbell Union Elementary District, Sunnyvale Elementary School District, Milpitas Unified K-12 School District
    • Santa Cruz Consortium - still has openings for AY 25-26
      • SCCOE, Scotts Valley Unified SD, Live Oak SD, Santa Cruz City Schools, Pajaro Valley Unified SD, Soquel Union SD, San Lorenzo Valley SD
    • Palo Alto Unified - filled for the 25-26 school year
      • Must be an instructional aide or paraeducator working in PAUSD to be eligible for the Teacher Residency Program

Residents commit to working in the residency district for 4 years.

Residents are with mentor teachers from beginning of year classroom set up to end of year classroom break down !

Districts typically interview and hire residents in March for the next school year

  • Professional Development days with the mentor teacher are built into the program - SJSU works with mentors regularly!

Quadrant 4 Program Materials REQUIRED

  • Pre-professional experience: Pre-professional experience form (submit any hours you have)
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation: provide names and email addresses of two people
  • Certificate of Clearance
    • OR submit valid Multiple Subject credential, OR Single Subject credential, OR Substitute Teaching Credential
  • CSET or Subject Matter Competency - submit if you have it - required by August 15

The certificate of clearance can take 7-10 days to process -- apply for this early in order to submit before the CSU Apply deadline.

We can not admit you without the Certificate of Clearance!

Begin SJSU Classes the first week of June!!

Matched with district and mentor teacher by June 15

Residency Orientation in early August

Begin in the classroom same day teachers go back to work in your district!!
