What is Dual/Concurrent Credit?

  • Dual Credit – Credit that counts for both high school and college credit.

  • Concurrent Credit – Taking a college course while you are still a high school student for only college credit.

  • The growing demand for qualified welders has necessitated the availability of a curriculum designed to meet the needs of the welding industry. Students graduating from the program will be skillful and have a good understanding of the related and technical information associated with welding. Graduates should be qualified to pass the entry-level certification tests as required by industry.

  • The Cosmetology Program contains three certificates of completion. The Operator Certificate prepares students to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation examination for the operator license and for managing a business. Classes begin in August and January. 
  • Eligibility for Workforce Courses: High school students must pass the EOC exam for English II.

Senior Year

What minimum scores do I need?

  • Juniors /Seniors 2018-2019

    • ACT: composite score of 23 with a minimum of 19 on the English for Reading and Writing and/or 19 on Math test.

or

    • SAT: 480 on Reading and Writing- Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) and/or a score of 530 on Math

or

    • STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) for 10th or 11th grade eligibility:
      • a. English II EOC – 4000
      • b. Algebra I EOC – 4000 with passing grade in Algebra II

or

    • TSI Assessment score: Reading, 351; Writing, 340 with 4+ on essay or a score of less than 340 and an ABE Diagnostic level of at least a 4, and an essay score of at least a 5,

What is Next???

  • Complete Kilgore College dual credit registration form, parent/student agreement form and release of liability form and submit ACT or SAT scores if available. Please turn in by December 1st to counseling office.
  • Your completed dual credit registration forms will be required before you can register with Kilgore College for 2018-2019.
  • Ms. Irwin will be on campus to assist with KC on-line registration during spring semester, 2018. Dual credit students will be notified of time and place.
  • Current high school transcript will be requested second semester.
  • Eligibility requirements for academic courses and workforce education courses will be reviewed by the Dual Credit Coordinator and submitted to KC with registration materials.

Important Message:

  • Remember: These are college courses, NOT high school courses and will be taught on a college level.

  • Since this is a college course, HHS will not be contacted on grade status. HHS receives final grades at the end of each semester.
