  • A pronoun is a word that stands in for a noun. Examples: we, them, us, you, él, ella, nosotros, yo
  • A direct object is the thing or person something happens to in a sentence. It answers the question whom? or what?
  • Example of direct object and DOP:
    • We buy a pizza. Señor Lechuza wants to eat it.
    • Compramos una pizza. El señor Lechuza la quiere comer.

A direct object pronoun replaces a direct object noun.

  • tú - te
  • él, usted (masculine)
    • lo
  • ella, usted (feminine)
    • la
  • nosotros - nos
  • vosotros - os
  • ellos, ustedes (masculine)

  • ellas, ustedes (feminine)

  • The direct object pronoun goes directly before the conjugated verb.
    • El señor Lechuza lo quiere.
  • If there is an infinitive straight after the conjugated verb, the direct object pronoun either goes right before the conjugated verb or attached to the end of the infinitive.
    • La chica tiene un café.
    • Lo quiere beber.
    • Quiere beberlo.
