we’re going to practice something using our five senses. It’s about using all of our senses to be totally present and mindful in the right now. I’m going to ask you some questions. For each one, I’ll give you a couple seconds to imagine your answer in your mind and then I’ll ask you to share it with your shoulder partner. First…hold up one finger…what is one thing you can SEE right now? (give them a few seconds) Turn and tell your shoulder partner. (give a couple seconds) Ok, now put up a second finger…what is one thing you can HEAR right now? Listen close! Now put up a third finger. What is one thing you can SMELL right now? Hold up a fourth finger. What is one thing you can FEEL with your body? Do you notice a soft rug underneath you? Do you feel warm or cold? Are your hands feeling your legs or the floor? Focus on one thing you can FEEL. Ok, now last. Hold up your fifth and final finger. What is one thing you TASTE? You’re not eating anything right now but I bet there’s still a flavor in your mouth.

How relaxing was that? Show me with your fingers. Zero (model) would mean not very helpful or relaxing. One (model) would mean a little relaxing and calming. Two (model) means very relaxing and calming. Show me with your fingers what you think of chair or floor push ups. (if using the scoring sheet, asks students to write their score down now)
