Discussed the scope of the committee. Immediate Task is to prepare questionnaire to be sent out for asking best DEI practices in outreach activities in various institutions.

Action Items:

1. Livia: write to IGRAV SC to add mjaikhomba@gmail.com in the mailing list.
2. Livia: write to IGRAV SC to ask for storage space in order to store all DEI related materials (images, PDFs, google docs, etc)
3. Jaikhomba: to start a google doc listing the various questions to be sent in the form of a google form to other working groups and possibly other prganistions outside IGRAV.
4. Jaikhomba: Set up next meeting 12 Dec, 8.30 UTC.

Working Group on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity

Summary of the DEI WG meeting:

​

• Introduced everyone
• Elected new co-chair: JAIKHOMBA SINGHA
• Discussion of Multimessenger Diversity Network (MDN) (DEI within the community) vs IGrav_DEI : Diversity in outreach
• Scope of our WG discussed with reference to discussion in past meetings
• First deliverable: write down guidelines on how to best organize outreach activities, to be delivered (at least) to other WGs of IGrav

• Ideas for possible WG activities:
• Survey among our colleagues (DEI issues, interaction with public, how to advertise to reach out more people, ask for existing resources for DEI and outreach)
• Collect resources from other scientific community (CERN, IPPOG, etc). Their practices towards DEI.
• IGrav working group to ask different science festival organiser (though the Science Festival WG of IGrav) if they have specific DEI practices.
• Contact Diversity experts (yesterday’s speaker on neurodiversity at the LVK gathering)
• Possibility to contact representatives/associations of Under Represented groups (later)
• [likely too many critical aspects to be feasible] Survey in the social media (delicate but will give an idea of our public, example to look at the existing questionnaire, how to conduct the survey? : may be a closed group, website forms on some secure server) : Additional inputs?

The International Gravity Outreach Group (IGrav)

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION WORKING GROUP

Our working group strives to educate IGrav, the gravitational community and those we serve in our outreach efforts about the real issues inherent in STEM with regards to under-represented and under-served groups. We particularly strive to engage with members of the marginalized in order to best understand how IGrav can best serve their needs. We recognize that these groups are described in different ways across the globe and feel it is also important to educate our widespread communities about the diversity encompassed by the gravitational community.
