Introduction and Overview

What is the Cares Act?

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, provided an economic stimulus to individuals, businesses, and schools.

Two funding streams dedicated to schools:

  • Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund - GEER
    • GEER - $136,880
  • Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund - (ESSER)
    • ESSER I - $1,669,579.37 (GCCS & non-pubs)
    • ESSER II - $6,687,068.90
    • ESSER III - $15,018,206.85

*(ESSER II and ESSER III - Non-pubs required to do a separate application and no allocations in our funding)

ESSER III REQUIREMENTS

  • ESSER III requires 20% to be allocated to support Learning Loss and Accelerated learning due to Covid - 19 ($3, 003, 61.37)
  • ESSER III requires regular updates on the Return to In-Person Instruction Plan and accessibility to plans on the district website.
  • ESSER III plan requires all constituents have an opportunity to provide feedback to the plan.
    • Plan was shared with GCEA
    • Community Task force has been established for the purpose of prioritizing facility needs and HVAC upgrades
