ASBR Background

  • 2003-Adopted by WSO for all Areas
  • Sets safety and behavioral requirements for all Alateens and all Al-Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service (AMIAS)
  • Apply to all use of the Al-Anon or Alateen name in conjunction with any meetings, groups, conventions, or any other gatherings in the Area where Alateen participation is offered

To Become an AMIAS…�Successfully complete the following:

New AMIAS training within 6 months of certification

Completion and return all forms to the AAPP

Background check with fingerprints

Mandated Reporter Training with certificate of completion

ASBR

Regularly attending Al-Anon meetings

Be at least 23 years old

Have at least two years in Al-Anon, six months of which must be in Georgia Al-Anon

According to the ASBR you must not have:

Conviction of a felony

Charge/conviction of Child Abuse or any other inappropriate sexual behavior

Demonstrated emotional problems which could result in harm to Alateen Members

The AAPP will…

withhold certification or recertification for any AMIAS application pending drug or alcohol related cases.

The decision for certification will proceed based on the outcome of any pending case.

Certification or recertification will be revoked and/or denied for any drug or alcohol related conviction for five years from date of conviction.

ASBR

Prohibits overt or covert sexual interaction between any adult and an Alateen member.

Prohibits conduct contrary to applicable laws.

Includes procedures for parental permissions and medical care when applicable.

Has been reviewed by legal counsel.

AMIAS seeking recertification must:

Complete 6 hours in service to Alateen in addition to the previously mentioned requirements

Area Alateen Process Person (AAPP)

Certifies and recertifies, according to the ASBR, the eligibility of Al-Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service

Maintains current information for all Alateen groups and AMIAS as well as processing any changes or updates

Area Alateen Coordinator

Assists in the education of members about Alateen during and outside of Assembly weekends and coordinates training for new AMIAS

Is the go-to AMIAS resource at all levels of service

1. Complete, sign, and return these documents to the AAPP.

2. After the AAPP receives the forms, you will receive a welcome packet that will include:

“Authorization for Background Check” form for criminal background check which the applicant will mail to the designated Investigation Service.

Instructions for completing the Georgia Mandated Reporter training.

3. After submitting the authorization form for criminal background check to the Investigative Service, this agency will…

a. Notify you via email of your Georgia Applicant Processing Services (GAPS) registration number.

b. Provide a list of GAPS sites in your area.

c. Provide a list of “what to bring” when reporting to a GAPS site for fingerprinting.

You will have two weeks to complete this process. If fingerprints are not taken within the two-week window, please resubmit an original authorization to the Investigative Service to restart the process

Certification Process…

To complete the certification process, the AAPP must be in receipt of:

1. Satisfactory background check

2. Certificate of completion from the Georgia Mandated Reporter Training

3. Complete all Modules of the AMIAS training – this is Segment A

Once this process is complete, the AAPP will submit the information for approval to the WSO. WSO will send a certification number to the AAPP, and finally the AAPP will notify you of your WSO certification number.

Group sponsor for an Alateen Group

Serve as “substitute” when a group sponsor cannot attend or needs support

Starting an Alateen Group

  • Follow the Area Process for certification of Alateen Group Sponsors and meeting registration.
    • Work with Area/District/AAPP and Alateen Coordinator
  • Set meeting place and time.
  • Al-Anon group support is helpful.
  • Alateen meetings are closed meetings-attended only by Alateens and Area certified Alateen Group Sponsors only.
