What is PTSA?
For more than 100 years, PTA has worked toward improving the lives of all children and youth in education, health and safety.
Founded in 1897 as the National Congress of Mothers by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst, in the midst of the Industrial Revolution and a wave of immigration, our founders recognized the need to protect children from harsh working and living conditions.
As the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the nation, National PTA is the conscience of the country for children and youth issues. Over the decades, PTA has emerged as a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for public education.
Today’s PTA is a vast network of millions of families, students, teachers, administrators, and business and community leaders devoted to the welfare and educational success of children and the promotion of family engagement in schools. We proudly live our motto, “every child.one voice.”
How PTSA Advocates for Our Students
Each year we send a contingent of students, PTSA Leaders, and administrators from AUSD to meet with our local government representatives in Sacramento. It is a wonderful experience for the selected students to make an impact on issues that directly affect them in education.
Advocacy Success of PTSA
