A How-to Guide for Setting up Read&Write to look and feel like Co:Writer and Snap&Read

To help with transitioning from Co:Writer and Snap&Read, this presentation will give you step-by-step instructions on how to make using Read&Write be more familiar to new users.

How to More Easily Transition from Co:Writer and Snap&Read to Read&Write

Overview:

  • With the addition of Vertical and Writing Modes, Read&Write can have a familiar look.

  • With the customization of the tools available on the toolbar, Read&Write in Vertical mode can contain almost all of the same tools - including Dark Mode which will make it look almost exactly the same as Snap&Read.

  • Using Writing Mode will give users an almost identical experience to Co:Writer.

You can turn tools on or off for use in the Features tab in the Settings

Switching between modes/views

There is a section at the top of Read&Write’s Settings menu called General which includes:

  1. Toolbar view to choose horizontal, vertical or writing.

  • Dark/light mode setting

How to Switch Modes

  • Go to the right side of the toolbar.
  • Click on the … to get the Settings menu
  • On the left side of the Settings menu, click on General
  • Click on the mode or Toolbar view you desire
  • Clicking the X will save your settings.

Vertical Mode of Read&Write

When you change from Horizontal Mode to Vertical Mode, you get the exact same toolbar with all of the same tools turned on for use.

  • This will likely cause a double stacked toolbar as seen here.

  • Vertical mode only has room to display 11 tools before it creates another column.

  • To change that, you will need to go to the Settings menu - see Slide 10.

How to Set up a User Profile

Here's how to create a profile in Read&Write:

  • Open the Settings menu
  • Click Profiles at the top
  • Click the Plus sign
  • Name the profile
  • Apply the desired settings
  • Watch the Video for help
  • This Article has how to Export your profile to push to others for use

Setting up a specific profile will give students access to a customized toolbar that looks like Snap&Read and has similar features. See how on next Slide.

How to Customize the Tools Displayed in Vertical Mode of Read&Write to look like Snap&Read

  • If you are setting up a Profile, skip the next two steps starting with Step 4.
  • Go to the right side of the toolbar.
  • Click on the … three dots to get the Settings menu.
  • On the left side of the Settings menu, click on Features.
  • Use the toggles to turn off any unneeded features.
  • Remember only 11 features will fit in the vertical space before causing the toolbar to have multiple columns.

When you are in the Features part of the settings, make sure you have turned on in order to have all of the tools you are used to having:

  • Text to Speech - Play, Pause, Stop
  • Screenshot Reader
  • Rewordify
  • Screen Masking
  • Translator
  • Simplify Page (Remove Distractions)

  • Go to the right side of the toolbar.
  • Click on the … to get the Settings menu
  • On the left side of the Settings menu, click on General
  • Go to Theme and choose Dark
  • Click the X which will save your Settings

Looks like Co:Writer

Only the prediction box pops up whenever you place your cursor in an area that you could type. Toolbar is on the bottom of the prediction box.

What about using Writing Mode on websites?

In the future, there will also be a miniature floating toolbar for accessing a few things like creating Topics (word banks) or using Text to Speech.

Using Co:Writer Prediction on the Horizontal or Vertical Modes in Read&Write

The Prediction List is the same and you will find Topics and “123” button for typing numbers at the bottom.

Text to Speech and Talk&Type are located on the main toolbar for use.
