Why is this topic important to Igbo culture?

  • It is important to Igbo people because it helps them have a healthy harvest and to honor their ancestors, and dead relatives.

Iri Ji (New Yam Festival)

  • Takes place during August and September.
  • Its the celebration for new Yams
  • To honor and ask their gods for good harvest
  • Time to feast like a beast

Mmanwu (Masquerade Festival)

  • Celebrates the passed on spirits.
  • Two types of Mmanwu; The invisible and visible.
  • Masks usually let people call a certain person out since their identity is hidden.
