GREED ☹️☹️☹️

🤔What is greed by the way?

For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. – Eph. 5:5

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; Psalm 24:1 (also Deut.8:18, Job 1:20-22)

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. - Phil 2:3-4

INTEREST

A good name  is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. Prov. 22:1

STRATEGIC ENGAGEMENT

3

16 of 42

Main Point

I believe that we need to prayerfully adopt well-defined economic and political strategies for the African continent.

This will help in dealing with corruption and many other issues and will ensure that the fruit of our evangelistic effort today will truly last (John 15:16).

17 of 42

The Economic Strategy

  • Great Effort so far:
    • “Africa Business Forum” already happening & getting better.
      • Over 200 Missional Enterprises in Africa! Very good start.

  • Questions:
    • How many MEs do we need to make meaningful impact?
    • How much volume of business will represent significant economic power?

18 of 42

The Economic Strategy

  • More Questions:
    • How do we scale up & out without losing quality and focus? Are the “Startup Academies” of strategic importance?

    • What will be required to achieve this?

Bottom line: We need critical scale to make the required impact.

THE POLITICAL STRATEGY

20 of 42

Why is Botswana different?

21 of 42

22 of 42

The Political Strategy

  • Joseph, Moses, King David, Josiah, Daniel, etc. - held political offices

  • Jesus referred to only two people as having “great faith”. One of them was a high ranking government official (Luke 7:1-10)!

23 of 42

The Political Strategy

  • How can we make sure that the African believer have a conducive environment to practice their faith even when we are long gone (John 15:16)?

  • Who have we prepared for the public offices?

  • What are we doing about the upcoming elections in different African countries?

24 of 42

The Political Strategy

  • What do we want them to do when they get there?

  • What mechanisms do we have in place to support them?

  • Is it possible to create other “Botswanas” in Africa? How?

25 of 42

Why must we have a political strategy?

the misuse of public power (by elected politician or appointed civil servant) for private gain.

The Political Strategy

My point is that the body of Christ is called to do more than fulfill the civic responsibility of voting electoral candidates—it’s to be active in preparing and sending those with clear calling to go into public service and participate in the process of nation building, making just laws and ensuring that the Good News of Jesus Christ can be preached freely everywhere until Christ returns.

2 Kings 7:3-4 (NIV) 3  Now there were four men with leprosy at the entrance of the city gate. They said to each other, "Why stay here until we die? 4  If we say, 'We'll go into the city'--the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die. So let's go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die."

1 Chronicles 21:11-12 (NIV) 11  So Gad went to David and said to him, "This is what the LORD says: 'Take your choice: 12  three years of famine, three months of being swept away before your enemies, with their swords overtaking you, or three days of the sword of the LORD--days of plague in the land, with the angel of the LORD ravaging every part of Israel.' Now then, decide how I should answer the one who sent me."

Matthew 21:23-27 (NIV) 23  Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you this authority?" 24  Jesus replied, "I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 25  John's baptism--where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or from men?" They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?' 26  But if we say, 'From men'--we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet." 27  So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Then he said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

DEALING WITH CORRUPTION

SUMMARY

42 of 42

Summary

1) What is corruption?

  • “The abuse of entrusted power for private gain”
  • Like anything else, unchecked, it keeps evolving
  • The root cause is GREED, only the Gospel has an effective answer!

4) Decision Zones

Creating the decision zones will help in your day to day handling of corruption issues:

2) The Fundamentals

God is the real owner of your business. His expectation of your bottom line is more important that anything else.

3) Strategic Engagement

We must have both the economic & political strategies to effectively deal with corruption.

Zone 1: Black & White

To deal with straightforward matters

Zone 2: Grey

It’s disputable, a matter of personal choice.

Zone 3: Red - Dangerous with many traps.
