Kayenta represents a very small percentage of total Santa Clara/Ivins Police responses (67 out of 3,315 in past six months)

Safety Survey Responses

We received 30 total responses, common themes include:

  • 85+% of residents rate feeling safe or very safe in Kayenta
  • Primary concern is overwhelming tied to the potential for burglary or theft
  • Solicitation was mentioned several times - fear they act as potential “scouts”
  • Fire and road safety (speeding, bikers/walkers) also mentioned
  • Strong, positive response to including their information for inclusion in a directory (22 respondents)

Detect

  • Always keep your eyes open
    • Observing and taking note of normal activity around you helps to identify abnormal activity
    • Activity out of the ordinary could be an indication of criminal or unsafe activity

Incident Reporting Checklist

If you see something, then say something

  • What type of incident is it? Why is it unusual or otherwise suspicious?
  • Is the crime/activity still in progress?
  • Where is the activity located?
  • How many suspects are there? Are they armed?
  • What did you see?
  • Can you describe the suspect’s age, sex, height, weight, hair, eye color, clothing, voice, race and unusual marks/attributes?
  • Can you describe the vehicle’s make, year, model, body style, license number, and other identifying features (e.g. dents or bumper stickers)

  • Assess current state regarding fire safety for community

  • Individuals shall consider/implement light touch/quick wins and medium touch solutions, as desired
    • Meet your neighbors/exchange contact info/observe your area’s normal state
    • If you see something, say something - report concerns to Ivins/Santa Clara Police
    • Consider installation of “No Solicitation” Signs (subject to HOA guidelines - request sent to Taviawk and Shonto HOAs to discuss/review)
    • Cyclists, walkers and drivers be courteous and follow rules of the road - for example cyclists should ride single file on the side of the street, use bike paths where available
    • Consider installation of home security or cameras (even simple video doorbells)
    • Sign up for local Emergency Updates to stay up to date
    • Get educated on fire risk and assess your home
    • Ensure your flat roof is cleared of debris on a regular basis to reduce fire risk
    • An attendee indicated perhaps an American Red Cross assessment could be requested of your home - we were only able to locate a link for help with smoke detectors and education on in-home fire safety. If you have a specific link, then please contact us.
