What to expect out of other SWAS students

Talkative Kid

Some SWAS kids like to talk, and talk, and talk. They will blurt and need to share their answers all the time.

Quiet Kid

Some SWAS kids are very quiet. They are shy and may be afraid to share their answers and be nervous to work with others.

Sensitive Kid

For some SWAS kids certain things may bother them more than others. They may get nervous, cry, get angry or super duper excited when they do something Awesome!

Goofy Kid

Some SWAS kids will spontaneously erupt into song and dance. They are literally movers and shakers and their passions can be seen for miles around.

Reading

To Read or Not to Read… That is the Question!

Step A:

If you wake up in the mornings ready to read then go onto step C

Step B:

If reading isn’t your free time activity of choice then go to step D

Step C:

Keep it up and mix it up! Read different genres.

Step D:

Ask yourself, what kind of movies do I like. Then try a book in that genre.

Summer Challenge

Read at least 1 book cover to cover over the summer. Be prepared to tell me about about.

Social Preparation

  • Spend time with current friends
  • Make a list of what qualities you’d like in a new friend
  • Talk to your family about how to react to someone when you are feeling:
    • Nervous around them
    • Intimidated by them
    • Annoyed by them
    • Really excited to be around them
  • Be Open Minded. There are lots of different personalities

in the world. We need to learn to appreciate and respect

everyone’s differences.

Make a cartoon story with characters who have a conflict and how they resolve the problem.

Emotional Preparation

Develop and plan for what to do when…

  • Someone answers correctly before you got a chance to
  • It seems like everyone else knows the answer and you don’t
  • Someone says the obviously wrong answer
  • You get really really excited about something and want to go berserk
  • Someone is bothering you during class
  • You feel alone on the playground
