CEUs - Social Workers, Counselors, and Nurses

Special note for Social Workers, Counselors, and School Nurses

  • CEUs are counted the same as PD Points.
  • 1 CEU is the equivalent of 1 PD Point.
  • You may submit CEUs earned outside the workday by following the same directions as teachers follow for submitting PD Points earned outside the workday. (See slides 36-51 for step-by-step instructions.)
  • You must attach a certificate of completion for the CEU to be approved.
  • Once the CEUs are approved in Frontline, you may use them in combination with College Hours to apply for movement on the Salary Scale. Follow the same directions as teachers. (See slides 15 - 22 for step-by-step instructions.)

Examples of Salary Adjustment

Example #1

Ana is a 1st grade teacher in KCKPS. She already has her master’s degree and is on Class Four of the salary schedule. Ana has decided to work towards earning her doctorate. For every 15 hours of coursework Ana completes, she will be able to move one class on the salary schedule.

To move to Class Five, she will use 15 hours of graduate credit.

Examples of Salary Adjustment

Example #2

Jose is a Middle School Social Studies teacher in KCKPS. He also has his master’s degree and is in Class Four of the salary schedule. Jose is not sure if he wants to pursue another degree, but he would like to move on the salary scale. He will enroll in eight hours of graduate coursework, and to save some out-of-pocket expenses, he will also engage in Professional Development opportunities.

To move to Class Five, he will use eight hours hours of graduate credit and 140 hours of PD Points approved for salary adjustment.

LETRS Credit - EC and Elementary Staff

Information: Graduate or Transcript Credit for LETRS

Multiple Credit options are available for staff who have completed Units of the LETRS training. Please read the information carefully to determine if one of the credit options is a good fit. LETRS credit options may be used for recertification hours with the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) and towards advancement on the KCKPS Salary Scale.

Beginning with the 2023-24 school year, in-service during the contractual day or paid in-service can be used for movement on the salary schedule.

  • After August 1, 2023, all PD points completed during the contractual day and marked as complete in Frontline will count as PD Points that may be used towards Salary Adjustment.
  • For Inservice completed during the contractual day, participants just need to sign up for the activities in Frontline. (See District Catalogue)
  • For Inservice completed during the contractual day, participants do NOT need to complete the ‘Professional Dev - Hours/Points’ Form.

PD Points Earned Outside of the Workday

  • PD Points earned outside of the workday, include: after school, weekends, or during the summer. (NOT Wednesday afternoon or District Inservice)
  • These points may be used for: Salary Adjustment and Recertification.
  • PD points earned outside the workday must be approved by the Director of Professional Development through the form in Frontline, ‘Professional Dev - Hours/Points’

Do you need to submit the ‘Professional Dev - Hours/Points’ Form in Frontline?

DO NOT complete the PD form in Frontline if…

  • The PD was during school hours.
  • The PD was sponsored and/or facilitated by district personnel.
  • The PD does not have proper documentation.

DO complete the PD form in Frontline if…

  • The PD was outside your regular workday hours.
  • The PD was something you chose to participate in.
  • The PD offers proof of attendance and/or a certificate of completion.

  • Your name;
  • The name of the course;
  • The number of PD hours;
  • The date of the course and;
  • The person/institution providing the PD.
