  • Goal: Provide students with lab experience
  • Exploring STEM interests (interdisciplinary)
  • Delve deep into chemistry and biology
  • Did some 3D printing (Building prototypes for nanoparticle devices)
  • I learned to create a scientific poster, understand lab conduct, and maintain a lab journal for my experiments
  • Lab Olympics!!!

What was the overall goal of your EP? What did you do/learn/accomplish?

  • Working Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM
  • Sometimes stayed later for experiments, talking with friends, and hanging out with other lab members
  • Meals were offered at the dining hall, but you do have to pay for them (prices are reduced)
  • Improv sessions once a week
  • Spent most of the time in the lab working on project

What was your daily or weekly schedule like?

  • Application consists of 3 Phases:
  • Initial application (couple of short essays)
  • Lab tours and group interview afterwards
  • Ranking is required!
  • FINAL: 1-on-1 interviews with labs
  • Support from Writing Instructors for essays
  • Watch interview tips from previous ARISE students
  • Make sure to ask questions!

How did you decide to apply for this program? What was the application process like?

  • Gained greater prep for interviews
  • Participated in more socializing events that were hosted by the program
  • Strengthened my essays

What would you have done differently if you could re-do your EP or the EP application process?

  • Fueled my interest in conducting research
  • Currently looking for colleges that offer opportunities in labs
  • Meet new friends!
  • Connected with mentors and received letters of recommendation from them
