Meals adhere to nutritional guidelines. Daily offerings include a variety of options with protein, fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk. A good percentage of our meals are prepared from scratch in our on-campus kitchen.

WHAT IS THE SOLANA BEACH SCHOOLS FOUNDATION (SBSF)?

The Solana Beach Schools Foundation is a volunteer parent-led, non-profit organization that raises money to help bridge the gap between the state-funded curriculum and the educational goals we have for all students.

The SBSF helps fund salaries, materials, and supplies to support interdisciplinary learning and enrichment opportunities, including Discovery Lab classes, which provide a well-rounded, best-in-class education for our children.

NEW NEXT YEAR! The SBSF will provide the district with seed funding to support research and planning that will explore how to grow interdisciplinary, hands-on learning experiences for all students.

Our Discovery Labs are part of what makes our students’ experience so special - these classes are not funded by the State! It is through parent support that we can help to provide these opportunities for our children.

Great news - starting in the upcoming school year the state (via Proposition 28) will be funding arts education for public schools in California, including our district!
Historically, SBSF helped fund arts education, but with the state covering this, we no longer need to.
The SBSF mission is to raise funds to bridge the gap between vital school needs and state funding to enrich the public education of all students. For the 2024/2025 school year, we’re working with the district to find new ways to meet our mission.
This year’s LCAP (Local Control & Accountability Plan) results indicated a desire for more hands-on, project-based learning. In response to this survey finding, the district will explore how to grow interdisciplinary, project-based approaches that incorporate environmental stewardship components related to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). We see this as a strong fit for the SBSF to support and we’re working with the district to fund this new idea for interdisciplinary learning for the coming year.
Just 10 years ago, the SBSF supported the district on their biggest needs then. At that time, the district spent a year developing what we now know as the STREAM class and the enrichment programs that make up Discovery Labs. A decade later, we are once again able to align our funding goals to support the district as it explores evolving educational priorities and approaches.
While we have some information on this shift in funding, we don’t have answers to all our questions yet, and we’re working with the district to create an updated plan.
