Opening Prayer

God of my life, I welcome each new day. Today is Your gift to me, the first day of the rest of my life. I thank You for the gift of being alive today. �

I thank You for your life-giving presence. I thank You for the chance to start anew. Lord, this day is full of promise and opportunity. Help me to waste none of it. This day is full of mystery and the unknown. Help me to face it without fear or anxiety. This day is full of beauty and adventure. Help me to be fully alive to it all.

Opening Prayer

During this day, may I become more prayerful and a more welcoming, encouraging, and generous person. Help me not to be turned in on myself, but to be sensitive and helpful to others. Lord, bless this day for me and for all I encounter.

Open my heart to you. Help me to grow to be more like Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus, may I know You more deeply, love You more dearly, and follow You more nearly, day by day.

Amen.

DISCIPLESHIP COMMITMENT PRAYER

Serving Jesus: Milestone

Lord, Jesus Christ, our leader and perfecter of faith, I desire to follow your teachings and live as you call me to live. Give me the grace to persevere on the path of discipleship so I may grow closer to you and grow to be more like you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I commit to live my life as your disciple, to share your light with others and to allow your Holy Spirit to guide me today and forever.

Pathways to Discipleship

Many participants may have never had the opportunity to publicly proclaim they are disciples of Jesus Christ. The following prayer of commitment may be incorporated into Session 7 following personal reflection.

Intro: Pathways to Discipleship is designed to help us learn to live like Jesus. It’s easy to assume that everyone who comes to Mass on Sunday is living like a disciple of Jesus, but that’s not necessarily the reality. As we’ve learned over these past many weeks, it takes intention and practice to live the way Jesus lived. One important thing about being Jesus’ disciples is we never actually stop.

Today, we’re all going to have the opportunity to commit to being a disciple of Jesus. Invitation: If you don’t feel like you’ve had the opportunity to publicly commit to follow Jesus and live like Jesus, we want to give you that opportunity today. If you want to publicly commit to be Jesus’ disciple, even if you have done so before, I invite you to stand up now. Together let’s pray a prayer of commitment and ask the Lord for His grace as we follow him.

If this is the first time you’ve made a public commitment, I invite you to remain standing. Others may be seated now. Welcome brothers and sisters!

Closing Prayer (Mt 6:9-13)

We will close with the words Jesus taught us.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. �Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, �On earth as it is in Heaven. �Give us this day, our daily bread, �And forgive us our trespasses, �as we forgive those who trespass against us. �And lead us not into temptation, �but deliver us from evil.

Amen. All the angels and saints, pray for us.
