Silver Camp General Information

Dates: 6th December – 10th December

Drop off: at 8:00am-9:00am on the 6th of December

Camp finish: 4:00pm on the 10th - Presentations start 3:00pm - parents to join!

What is Silver Camp?

Silver Camp Consists of attain 3 Awards – IRB Crew, First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation.

IRB Crew Provides participants with the skills and knowledge to crew an IRB for a vast range of rescues, effectively search for missing people and provide safety to the public.

Advanced Resuscitation provides participants with the skills and knowledge to use oxygen therapy and resuscitation, bag value mask and suction equipment in an emergency.

First Aid provides participants with advanced skills and knowledge to manage an emergency first aid situation in a range of settings.

Members Training Online

Like Bronze - there will be online learning that must be completed at least 1 week before attending the camp - https://mt.lsv.com.au/

Candidates will not be allowed on camp without having completed their online learning!!

What a day will look like

Camp Food

Meals & Food

Breakfast: Cereal, toast, yoghurt, fresh fruit, eggs, bacon.

Lunch: Pies, Parma, Spaghetti, Rolls, Curry and other hot foot.

Dinner: Pies, Parma, Spaghetti, Rolls, Curry, Lasagna, Stir-Fry, Fried Rice etc.

Morning/Afternoon Tea: Soup, Sausage rolls, Fruit, hot food.

Camp Rules

Respect for each other and instructors

No bullying or exclusion

Responsible for own belongings (please label everything)

Strictly no Alcohol, Vapes or other Illicit substances

Duty groups - cleaning and preparing

No phone policy (however exceptions do apply)

Breach of rules may result in a phone call to parents or the candidate being send home early WITHOUT their Bronze Medallion.

Camp Rules

No damage is to be cause to the club, LSV or other candidates

No leaving the camp premises at any point (unless permission is granted).

Safeguarding Children laws and rules apply

No one is to enter the bathrooms or sleeping area of the opposite sex.

Key Tags

New members will receive a key tag which will access the bunkrooms/bathrooms of their sex, the gear shed and first aid room.

EXISTING MEMBERS should bring their key tag which they already have (not a family key tag).

Please ensure memberships have been paid for key tag approval.

LSV Safeguarding Children

Separate Instructor bedrooms.

No instructor is allowed to be alone with a Bronze candidate.

All instructors have WWCC.

Sleeping Arrangements

The club has two large bunk room spaces for males and females.

Key tags of the opposite sex will not be able to open bathrooms or bedrooms of the opposite sex.

Instructors sleep at the club in separate areas.

Emergencies

In the rare event of an emergency (fire, medical, weather etc..):

  • The club will be evacuated to a safe location or designated meeting points AND 000 notified.

  • Instructors will have permission to enter all areas of the club to extract candidates where necessary to do so.

  • Follow instructions from Management team and Coordinators

Fitness

Silver Camp involves water rescues on all people and running on sand – requiring relative fitness levels.

All candidates are expected to have a moderate level of fitness.

All instructors partake in the fitness component with candidates.

Patrolling

All Bronze Candidates will receive a patrol group at the end of the camp.

The main purpose of Lorne SLSC is to patrol and protect the public.

This will include patrol dates which are compulsory to attend, unless a cover is found, and the patrol captain is notified.

Members MUST complete a minimum of 24 hours of patrolling a year (2-3 weekends).

Pier to Pub

Jan 11th, 2024

  • All active members are expected to attend and assist on the day

  • Volunteer T-shirts, caps and drink bottles will be provided in the morning briefing

  • A Members BBQ dinner and party will be held in the evening as a thank you

After Bronze Camp, Bronze Candidates can stay at the surf club – this must be arranged with the patrol captain and club admin at least 2 weeks prior to staying at the club!

Beach Lifeguarding (Paid Role)

  • Complete Silver Medallion Awards (IRBC, IRBD, ART/FA, Patrol Captains, SSV).

  • Complete Advanced Lifesaving Camp

  • Apply to become a Beach Lifeguard

  • If successful, get paid to patrol at all different beaches within Surf Coast or around the state.

Skills Maintenance

  • You MUST update your Bronze Medallion every 12-months.

  • Skills Maintenance sessions are held around the state.

  • If you obtain other awards, you MUST also keep these up to date.

Skills Maintenance

After Silver Camp, candidates will be required to maintain:

  • Bronze Medallion
  • IRB Crew
  • Advanced Resuscitation

FIRST AID AWARD does not require skills maintenance.

Skills Maintenance

You MUST update your Bronze Medallion every 12 months.

Skills Maintenance sessions are held around the state for you to update your award right before the coming relevant season.

If you obtain other awards, you MUST also keep these up to date

Involves face-to-face practical and online theory

Skills Maintenance for IRBC/D

Failure to do this will result in losing this award.

You MUST book in and attend a practical session for IRBC/D every 12 months.

You MUST complete the online Skills Maintenance Learning every 12 months for your IRBC/D.

Skills Maintenance for First Aid

Re-sitting the course is not re-doing a silver camp, it is booking into a 1–2-day course, anywhere around the state..

Instead, you must re-sit the entire course every 3 years (per LSV guidelines).

This award does not require any skills maintenance.

Skills Maintenance for ART

You MUST book in, complete online learning and attend a Resuscitation COURSE (NOT SKILLS MAINTENANCE) every 12 months.

You MUST book in and attend a practical session for ART every 12 months.

You MUST complete the online Skills Maintenance Learning every 12 months for your ART.

You MUST re-sit the entire COURSE every 3 years (the same as first aid).

Skills Maintenance

Failure to complete the required Skills Maintenance every 12 months and/or re-sit the AR/FA COURSE every 3 years will result in losing you award.
