Human trafficking is condemned as a violation of human rights by international conventions, but legal protection varies globally.

The Government of India does not fully meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking but is making significant efforts to do so.The recent statistics show that-

  • Over 50% victims in forced labor, enduring 12+ hours daily.
  • Deceived into jobs with false promises, trapped in debt cycles.
  • 2022: 6,622 identified trafficking victims, 694 potential.
  • 2019: 5,145 trafficking victims, 2,505 potential.
  • 2020: 5,156 victims - 2,837 bonded labor, 1,466 sex trafficking.
  • Source states: Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Urgent need for comprehensive measures to address the issue.
