We have a selection of funds that you can choose to invest in for the work that you want to see done in the future.

We have Polio Plus, which funds one of Rotary’s top organizational priorities of eradicating the world from polio.
We have the Annual Fund, which through our SHARE system creates funding for your district every year to pay for both District and Global grants lead by your clubs.
We have our Endowment, which creates funding for projects in perpetuity for your district. You receive investment earnings every year in perpetuity, no matter what.
And finally you can give cash gifts directly to approved global grants, however these gifts do not receive an additional match in funding from our World Fund.

Our World Fund is the source of Rotary funding for your global grants.

YOUR GIFT AT WORK

The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives close to home and around the world.

The Annual Fund is the main funding source for Foundation programs. Your gift empowers Rotarians to carry out sustainable service projects in your community and around the world.

When you contribute to the Annual Fund, through its SHARE investment program half of your gift becomes available for your district and clubs to use however they choose.

For example, if you make a gift of $1,000 to the Annual Fund-SHARE:

For three years, your contribution is invested. Historically the investment earnings have been used to pay for the Foundation’s operating costs.
After three years, that money is made available to fund your projects.

Half of the contribution, or $500 in this case, becomes part of your district’s District Designated Funds (also known as DDF). This is the money your district uses to help fund local and international projects. Your district decides how to use it.
The other half goes to the World Fund. These funds are used for worldwide grants, Foundation programs, or aid where the Trustees determine the need is greatest.

Districts that are active with both district and global grants get the full impact of gifts made by their members through our Annual Fund-SHARE program.

The funds that your district has access to this year come from contributions made three years ago in 2017-18. That’s why it’s so important for members to invest in Annual Fund-SHARE every year to ensure funding for your good work in the future.

Several years ago, we started a fundraising initiative for the Annual Fund called Every Rotarian, Every Year. The goal of Every Rotarian, Every Year is to encourage support of the Annual Fund and increase Rotarian engagement with the Foundation.

How many of you have heard of Every Rotarian, Every Year?

This effort is based on the idea that if every Rotarian gave at least $25 every year to the Annual Fund, the possibilities of what the Foundation could accomplish would multiply.

In 2019-20, we accomplished a lot:

As I mentioned before, Rotarians invested a little over $123 million to the Annual Fund last year
Additionally, because of generous investments made in previous years, The Foundation was able to award more than 1,300 global grants last year
And that doesn’t include the hundreds of local district grants approved by district leaders around the world last year as well

With nearly a third of Rotarians making a gift to the annual fund and becoming EREY eligible worldwide, we’ve achieved a lot and improved the lives of many. Can you imagine how many more lives could be changed through grant projects if we encourage even more Rotarians to contribute at least $25 to the Annual Fund every year?

So now that I’ve talked to you about why investing in The Rotary Foundation is an important part of your membership benefit with Rotary, how can you go about making your contribution?

Automating your gift with Rotary Direct is one of the safest and easiest ways to make your annual contribution to the Annual Fund. I personally have my contributions sent up monthly with Rotary Direct, but you can also set up the transactions to be quarterly or annually by logging into your My Rotary account online.

The second-best way to give is through our online giving portal at rotary.org/donate. If you’re signed in to My Rotary, your gift will automatically be connected to your account and credited to your club. If you are looking to make a contribution this December before the tax year-end, our online giving portal will be the best way to assure that your gift gets counted on time. (As a side not, this year with the CARES act you can write off a charitable gift of $300 without itemizing on your taxes. Just some food for thought.)

You can also work with your club Foundation chair to make a gift through your club or you can mail in your gift with a Foundation contribution form, which is available on My Rotary.

Finally, if your company is eligible, consider having your Annual Fund contributions matched by your employer. Request a matching gift form from your employer, and send the form to us completed and signed along with your contribution. You will receive Paul Harris Fellow points for any contributions made by your employer, and both your club and district will receive credit for the contribution. For the district, this would result in additional DDF.
