River Born
Documentary about women who have empowered themselves by empowering others, like a river nourishing everything around
Duration: 100 minutes
Language: English
Location: India
About the film
The documentary film "River Born" is a cinematic tapestry woven from the stories of several women who transformed themselves and the world around them. It's a captivating narrative about how the impulses to "create", "do", "change" and "help", which arise within individuals at different ages and circumstances, lead to astonishing twists of fate.
Intuitively following these impulses is at times hard to justify with logic and common sense. This surge is challenging to halt, even in the absence of resources and support from the environment. The incredible fruits it ultimately bears are impossible to predict.
“Just as different streams, having their sources in different places, all merge their waters into the sea, so, O Lord, the various paths that people take, with their different inclinations, whether they seem crooked or straight, all lead to You!”
Shiva Mahimna Stotram
Meanings
The history of India is a tale of millions of spiritual paths, interweaving through devotion to thousands of gods and hundreds of teachings. For several millennia, people have journeyed to India to seek answers to their questions and to discover within themselves the flame that bestows meaning upon individual human lives or the life of all humanity.
This film about those, who were pushed by life itself to perform their dharma
The implication of dharma is that there is a right or true way for each person to carry out their life in order to serve both themselves and others. Dharma is closely related to the concepts of duty and selfless service, or seva, and is therefore a fundamental principle of yoga.
Why Women?
Contrary to numerous stereotypes, women in India are the driving force behind progress, unity, and creation. Similar to the sensual and flexible energy of Shakti, women in modern India gently yet confidently occupy spaces in business, social spheres, science and the arts. They establish major international companies, schools, and become remarkable figures in the world of art and culture. And behind each of these stories lie profound meanings not only for Indian society but for all of us - inhabitants of the planet.
