Why did this happen?

Events that caused the need of a Declaration:

Boston Tea Party-colonist were angry about tax on tea so they dumped the tea in the harbor.

War- “The French and Indian War”- was expensive to fight war so England wanted to tax the colonies for more money.

  • Effect: The event or consequence caused by an action.

•American colonist were under British rule.

•Great Britain was too far away to take care of daily problems.

What Happened on July 4th,1776?

  • Congress members from the 13 colonies came together because they wanted to write a document to declare their rights.
  • The congress members and authors included: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and many more.
  • They met in an assembly room in Independence Hall, which is located in Philadelphia,PA.
  • The document was called: “The Declaration of Independence”.
  • It was signed on July 4th,1776. This day is known as Independence day.
